MONTECITO, Calif. (AP) – The latest from Oprah Winfrey’s interview with Meghan and Harry for the first time since leaving royal life:
Meghan Markle told Oprah Winfrey that she “didn’t quite understand what the job was” when she married Prince Harry.
Winfrey’s much-anticipated two-hour taped interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex aired on CBS in the US on Sunday night, with Meghan sitting alone with Winfrey.
The two talked about the early days leading up to the royal wedding, and Meghan said, “There was no way of understanding what everyday life would be like.
“That has been really difficult in the last few years when perception and reality are two very different things,” Meghan said. “And you are judged by perception, but you live off reality.”
Meghan also revealed that she and Harry were technically married a few days before the world-watched ceremony.
After a brief intro with Winfrey, in which he recounted the couple’s wedding and then announced that they would step down from their royal duties, Meghan entered the garden in the backyard of the interview.
“You really do have a baby!” Winfrey yelled when she saw Meghan’s baby bump under her black Empire style dress.
Meghan said she would reveal the baby’s gender later in the interview when Harry joined them.
Winfrey and Meghan said they stayed at a friend of Winfrey’s house because they liked the area.
They made it clear that no questions would be taboo and that Meghan and Harry would not be paid for the interview.
