Our fascination with the style of celebrity couples is one of those truths that sounds eternal. Be it Gwyneth and Brad, the iconic suits of Britney and Justin, and the red-carpet antics of the Beckhams, his brilliance just can’t be done on its own and proves that good things are indeed two.
The cool couples of the past spawned what we now like to call “couple goals,” and their influence has never really waned since then. In 2021 we are living in another golden age of couples.
Whether you noticed it or not, your favorite couples are everywhere. Your casual paparazzi shots will be turned into memes, shared in Instagram stories worldwide, and pinned on secret Pinterest boards.
After the pandemic, couples’ street style has reached new heights. Over a year spent without people has made us see people making out again – especially when they’re wearing excellent outfits.
Taking the perfect paparazzi photo might seem easy at first, but securing what we’d like to call “social media gold” isn’t that easy. Nowadays we want something ambitious – not unattainable. We also want to hold hands with an iced coffee or long walks through the park in suitable outfits. Celebrity couples are living our dream and we love seeing them through our screens.
To really cement our love of celebrity street style rebirth in 2021, let’s take a look at some of our favorite celebs who offer the best looks.
The new classics – Kaia Gerber & Jacob Elordi
Everything looks good when you’re tall and pretty, but with Kaia and Jacob it’s twice as difficult. Her simple off-duty looks are just the thing, perfectly worn denim and college sweaters are indispensable parts of her combined wardrobe. They’re the ultimate Gen-Z pair, and Gerber’s affinity for Celine, a matching training set and blazer, paired with Elordi’s love of Nike training shorts and baseball caps, make them the perfect mix of luxury and athleisure.
The Naturalists – Joaquin Phoenix & Rooney Mara
No couple exudes cool as effortlessly as Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara. They’re known to be shy of paparazzi, but were photographed walking barefoot in a karate class together in matching uniforms and are often spotted wearing the same shoes – a pair of classic, perfectly worn Converse Chuck Taylors. They might not even try, but somehow they always go together (which might not be that difficult if you only wear black and white).
After Phoenix won an Oscar, the two chewed burgers together in a flight of stairs, and the actor was also less cared for than spotted with a Redbull in one hand and a cigarette in the other. Maybe the secret of effortless cool just doesn’t matter.
The Curveballs – Channing Tatum & Zoe Kravitz
What initially seemed like an unlikely pairing has turned out to be a source of social media gold. Channing has plunged headlong into his selection of vintage t-shirts to match Zoe’s hot and undisturbed energy and looks like an aspiring BMX rider who happens to be a 35 year old. Gone are the tight T-shirts and jeans from the days of Magic Mike, because now the actor is leaning towards “baggy and swaggy”. We’re not going to talk about his Met Gala tuxedo, however.
Whether riding a bike together or shopping at Whole Foods, these two serve up casual looks for every day of the week, and the fact that Tatum follows a handful of Zoe Kravitz fan accounts on Instagram means we’re all looking for this pair more than ever.
The Remake – Jennifer Lopez & Ben Affleck
Bennifer was THE couple between 2002 and 2004, and somehow they are still THE couple in 2021. Not only have they nailed the “unintentionally” matching looks and “surprise” paparazzi snapshots, they also pay homage to their iconic zero-year relationship. Imagine yourself being iconic enough to only refer to yourself. We are talking about this one replica of the unforgettable yacht image.
Their reunion seems to be a reflection of our time when remakes are second nature. We’re obsessed with everything Y2K, and brands like True Religion and Juicy Couture that are rebirth, and our favorite films that are remake or sequel – it only fits that one of the greatest couples of the 2000s had one too.
The Disruptors – Hailey & Justin Bieber
If you could see how many people searched for “Hailey Bieber Street Style” in the past year, it would be millions. Hailey nailed the chic everyday look by pairing a $ 8,900 Bottega Veneta Teddy Shearling coat with a pair of humble Nike Air Force 1s.
Justin, on the other hand, has gone from being described as a real “scum brother” to being his husband-style. Today the singer mainly wears his own label Drew House, occasionally also cameos from other streetwear labels and his signature hotel slippers. The two perfectly embody the aesthetics of model girlfriend and streetwear boyfriend and their combined style evolution will go down in history.
The final boss – Rihanna & A $ AP Rocky
When it became known that Rihanna and A $ AP Rocky were dating, we were overwhelmed. Already style icons in their own right, the two have both worked in the fashion world with some of the top brands in the industry for years, but together they seem unstoppable. Drive up to the Met Gala in Balenciaga and ERL, shoot music videos together – whatever. It never gets boring and the two even share clothes.
When the photo of the two in neon fur, Rihanna in a bright pink coat and Rocky in a flashy lime green hat, came up, they literally broke the internet. The photo was everywhere and it was just the beginning of their reign as the most stylish couple in the world. You constantly cross borders and together we hope for unforgettable looks and many more iconic moments.
