Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin unveils Orbital Reef personal area station

WASHINGTON – Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin announced on Monday its plan for a private space station called “Orbital Reef”, which is to be built in collaboration with several space companies and is expected to be deployed between 2025 and 2030.

Blue Origin describes the Orbital Reef station, which would be habitable for up to 10 people, as a “mixed-use business park” in space – as well as “exotic hospitality” for space tourists.

Orbital Reef is designed to have almost as much habitable volume as the International Space Station.

The company’s primary partner for the station is Sierra Space, a subsidiary of aerospace company Sierra Nevada Corporation Boeing, Redwire room and Genesis Engineering.

“We are only just beginning to understand the enormous impact microgravity research, development and manufacturing can have, not just on universe exploration and discovery, but also on improving life on earth,” said Mike Gold, executive vice President of Redwire, opposite CNBC.

Redwire Space’s shares were temporarily held on the New York Stock Exchange after rising following the announcement. The stock rose as much as 40% in trading but gave up most of the gains and ended the day 8% higher at $ 13.14.

Blue Origin will provide the “utility systems” and “core modules” of the space station and plans to launch Orbital Reef with its New Glenn rocket.

Sierra Space is contributing its LIFE (Large Integrated Flexible Environment; essentially an inflatable space station module) and plans to use its Dream Chaser spacecraft to transport cargo and crew to and from the station.

Redwire room, which went public in September, will carry out the station’s payload operations and build operational structures. Redwire also plans to use Orbital Reef for microgravity research, development and manufacturing.

Boeing will build Orbital Reef’s science-based module and operate the station and perform maintenance engineering. The aerospace giant also plans to use it his Starliner capsule for the transport of crew and cargo to the station.

Genesis Engineering will bring in its “Single Person Spacecraft” system, which the company is calling as an alternative to a spacesuit.

In a conference call with reporters, executives from the team’s companies declined to reveal how much each of them would like to invest in Orbital Reef.

Blue Origin Vice President Brent Sherwood said the team will not give a “specific number” on how much the Orbital Reef space station will cost, adding that the financial numbers are commercially sensitive.

Bezos’ company has been considering building a space station for more than a year since CNBC previously reported, and added a number of job postings for his Orbital Destinations team earlier this month.

The space station race is heating up

Blue Origin intends to compete for one of NASA’s anticipated contracts for the Commercial LEO Destinations program, but Bezos’ company is not alone. NASA’s director of commercial space, Phil McAlister, told CNBC last month that the program had received “about a dozen proposals” from a variety of companies for contracts.

With NASA planning to decommission the International Space Station by the end of the decade, the CLD program represents an attempt to turn to private companies for new space stations – with the space agency expecting to save more than $ 1 billion annually.

“We are in a second golden age in space exploration and development,” said Redwire’s Gold.

Last week, another private space station was announced by a separate team of companies: Nanoracks, Voyager Space, and Lockheed Martin are building a station called Starlab, which is scheduled to go into operation by 2027.

Starlab is to be manned by up to four astronauts, which corresponds to about a third of the volume of the ISS.

NASA has already started funding a company’s ambitions under a separate contract from the CLD program after Axiom Space with $ 140 million. Axiom plans to build modules that will be connected to the ISS. When the ISS retired, Axiom would then dismantle its modules and turn it into a free-flying space station.

Common Motors unveils new high-end GMC Sierra Denali and AT4X pickups

DETROIT – General Motors launches two new high-end GMC Sierra 1500 pickups, including one called Denali Ultimate, which will start at more than $ 80,000 – making it the most expensive half-ton full-size pickup on the market.

The new models aim to build on Sierra’s already high profit margins and average transaction prices, which stand at $ 53,342. That includes $ 61,695 for the current Denali 1500 pickup truck, which starts at around $ 57,700.

The other new pickup is the AT4X, a more luxurious and all-terrain pickup than the current AT4. of the brand, from $ 74,995. It has many but not all of the technical improvements like the Denali Ultimate with off-road parts and accessories. It also has less chrome on the outside and opts for more darkened features and tires.

“There is an opportunity to add even more luxury and even more capabilities. We believe there is a market for it. There are people willing to pay an even higher price, ”said Duncan Aldred, GMC’s global director, during an interview earlier this year.

The new models are part of an updated range of full-size pickups for the 2022 model year that includes a refreshed exterior and a redesigned, more technologically advanced interior on most models. The trucks will debut online Thursday night and during an ad on Thursday Night Football between the Denver Broncos and Cleveland Browns.

The updated models offer a digital display greater than 40 inches diagonally, including a new 13.4 inch diagonal color touch screen, a 12.3 inch digital instrument for the driver and a 15 inch head up displays. Both the AT4X and Denali Ultimate have a standard 6.2-liter V-8 engine that delivers 420 horsepower and 460 foot-pounds of torque.

2022 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X

While the GMC Sierra shares its bones the Chevrolet Silverado, The automaker has specifically differentiated both the pickups and the brands in recent years. The differentiation has allowed GM to continue to bring the GMC brand to market, although many of the vehicles share platforms and features with Chevrolet vehicles.

According to GM, the vehicles should go on sale in the spring of next year. The automaker is accepting refundable reservation deposits of $ 100 on GMC’s website for the Sierra 2022 models.

Starting prices for the 2022 GMC Sierra range range from $ 32,495 for a work-oriented pickup to $ 80,395 for the Denali Ultimate. The price includes a mandatory target fee of $ 1,695.

GMC isn’t the first to offer a truck with a starting price of more than $ 80,000. Ford engine offers a handful of pickups above this price point, but they’re bigger super duty trucks than the GMC Sierra 1500.

Denali Ultimate

GM executives have Denali as one of its leaders Profit gems for many years. It started as a small trim on the Yukon SUV in 1999, but has expanded to include every vehicle of the brand in recent years.

The Sierra Denali Ultimate is a fully loaded vehicle equipped with GM’s Super Cruise hands-free freeway driving system, which will be expanded upon the company’s announcement 22 models by 2023. The technology will be available on the regular Denali, but not by default.

The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate features GM’s Super Cruise hands-free highway driving system.

“The very first Sierra Denali Ultimate Trim is the most advanced and luxurious pickup in its class and takes the popular Denali sub-brand to an even higher threshold for capable luxury,” GM said in a press release on Thursday.

Other features include a pickup bed made of carbon fiber composite, high-quality suspension and driving components, massive 22-inch wheels, full-grain leather interior and open-pore Paldao wood paneling in the interior.

GM calls the AT4X a “balanced design that offers advanced off-road capability” without sacrificing comfort on the road.

Like many other automakers, GMC wants to benefit from increasing sales of SUVs and the demand for all-terrain vehicles. The looks and characteristics of such vehicles have become more popular with mainstream consumers in recent years.

2022 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X

The vehicle has an upgraded suspension system and other off-road parts and accessories like a two-speed transfer case for rock crawling.

GM’s Chevrolet brand also launched a new off-road model for the last month Silverado 1500 is called ZR2.

Correction: The new 2022 GMC Sierra pickups with V-8 engines produce 460 foot-pounds of torque. In an earlier version, the number was incorrectly specified.

Chickasaw Nation unveils plans for an expansive resort-style vacation spot | Native Information

OKLAHOMA CITY – Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby today unveiled plans for a large resort-style property to be adjacent to the newly opened First Americans Museum. Located on the Oklahoma River near downtown Oklahoma City, OKANA Resort & Indoor Waterpark will be an over $ 300 million tourist destination set to continue the momentum of Oklahoma City’s economic development.

“Strong partnerships and diligent efforts among city and state officials as well as private institutions were an integral part of the launch of the First Americans Museum,” said Governor Anoatubby. “With this world-class First Americans Museum now operational, we are ready to shift our focus to yet another major tourism and hospitality venue. It is our vision that the OKANA Resort will be the experience for visitors not only from our region, but across North America and around the world.

“OKANA Resort & Indoor Waterpark was designed to complement the First Americans Museum’s focus on cultural experiences and connect visitors to other entertainment experiences along this established and vibrant part of the Oklahoma River.”

Announced plans detail the first phase of the project, which will develop approximately 40 acres of the 140 acres held by AICCM Land Development, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Chickasaw Nation.

The resort hotel will feature an 11 story 404 room property offering guests luxury accommodations, river and lagoon views, and proximity to the heart of Oklahoma City and the Boathouse District. In the middle of the property is a 5 acre outdoor adventure lagoon for relaxing and playing, which consists of a main body of water and two smaller bodies of water – all lined with sandy beaches. A footbridge will span the main body of water so guests can easily move around the property. The resort will also include a 33,000-square-foot family entertainment center, over 100,000-square-foot indoor water park, 39,000-square-foot conference center space, a spa and golf simulator, and several retail stores and restaurants.

Chickasaw Nation’s Secretary of Commerce Bill Lance said collaboration between local and state governments and business leaders has made this type of investment possible.

“There is no doubt that an entertainment and lodging complex on this scale will be a major contributor to the exciting advances in Oklahoma City. The resort is expected to initially employ 400 people and the annualized economic impact for the first year is estimated at $ 97 million. In addition, estimates of the 10-year economic impact of this development are projected to exceed $ 1 billion, with full-time employment rising to around 700 to 800. ”

The development will also include a Native American Market and an amphitheater. The market offers First American artists a space to display works of art or other creations. The amphitheater and the outdoor lawn can accommodate around 1,500 people. These venues are designed to complement the museum’s program with local artist performances, festivals, lectures, and similar events.

Lance noted that a new Oklahoma River Cruises ferry dock, funded by a $ 4 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration, could easily connect the development to the Boathouse District. Additional access to the area will be possible through the system of paths from both the north and the south. Because the property is right on the Oklahoma River, visitors have a front row seat on the start line of the US Rowing National High Performance Center’s 2,000-meter course.

Wynne / Jackson, a Dallas-based real estate development company, assisted with development design for the entire project. The New York-based Aquatic Development Group is the hotel developer, while the Wisconsin-based ADCI is the hotel and water park architect. Benchmark Hospitality will operate the hotel and water park, which is expected to employ around 500 people. CallisonRTKL also assists with the master planning of the entire project and acts as the architect for the Native American Marketplace as well as retail and hospitality components. Johnson & Associates of Oklahoma City provided site preparation and ongoing support.

Project funding, including site rehabilitation, infrastructure and development, will come from both private and public sources. Public funding includes tax increase funds, MAPS4, federal transport grants and funds from existing general bond issues.

The plans presented today assume that the project will be completed in late spring 2024.

City and business leaders commented on the announcement of the OKANA Resort & Indoor Waterpark.

“The caliber of this development is world-class and truly worthy of America’s 22nd largest city,” said Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt. “The opening of FAM was only the first step in unlocking the potential of this location for our community. The announcement of the development plan shows how Oklahoma City can become an international destination for indigenous and indigenous culture. This development helps create a place where indigenous and indigenous peoples come together and a place where all people experience this culture. On behalf of the people of Oklahoma City, we are so grateful to the Chickasaw Nation for their vision and commitment to this project. Our mutual partnership is something that Oklahoma City values very much. “

“We are delighted that the area around the First Americans Museum (FAM) is being developed with care and appreciation for the museum’s architectural integrity. Our new neighbors, AICCM Land Development, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Chickasaw Nation, worked with and involved with FAM in planning the project. The FAM team played an advisory role throughout the process. Both the FAM and the surrounding communities will benefit greatly from the presence of the conference hotel and water park, ”said James Pepper Henry, Director and CEO of the First Americans Museum.

Roy Williams, President and CEO of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber, said, “The number of dining and lodging options for all types of OKC visitors has exploded in recent years. And soon the OKANA Resort will bring an additional experience that complements our unique new museum. The economic impact of a commercial development of this magnitude, especially near the new park and the First Americans Museum, builds on the dynamism that has been achieved in our city in recent years. It pays homage to the “can do” spirit of OKC public and private sector leaders, including our partners in the Chickasaw Nation in particular. “

Oklahoma City Convention and Visitors Bureau President Zac Craig said, “With the world out of the pandemic, we expect competition in the Convention area to be intense for several years. But I can say with confidence that with world-class attractions for both vacation travel and convention companies, OKC is ready to rival any city in this region and beyond. The OKANA project is a welcome and exciting addition to OKC’s hospitality and entertainment portfolio and will further increase the economic vitality of our city. “

The Biden government on Friday unveiled a government-wide plan to address the systemic threat climate change poses to all economic sectors.

The roadmap is part of the longer term agenda of the White House to cut domestic greenhouse gas emissions by almost half by 2030 and transition to a net zero emissions economy by mid-century while mitigating the effects of climate change on the economy.

Increasing climate-related disasters such as heat waves, droughts, floods and forest fires threaten the stability of the global financial system.

Extreme weather events this year Affected 1 in 3 Americans, according to federal disaster statements and interrupted supply chains across the country. Extreme weather for the past five years cost Americans According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, more than $ 600 billion in damage.

The government’s plan takes into account how climate change is affecting the businesses people invest in and aims to protect the savings and pensions of American families with retirement plans. Climate-related risks in retirement plans have cost US retirees billions in lost retirement funds, according to a White House leaflet.

The Department of Labor “is making efforts to remove regulatory barriers and ensure that benefit plan trustees can incorporate material climate-related risks into their investment decisions,” the report said. “These efforts will better protect the savings of American workers and their families from the effects of climate change and could also mobilize capital for sustainable investment.”

The roadmap also shows how authorities can strengthen infrastructure resilience in response to worsening climate disasters. It shows how authorities can use federal procurement to address climate-related financial risks and incorporate climate-related risks into federal lending and budget planning.

This month, more than 20 federal agencies did published climate adaptation plans Identify the greatest threats climate change poses to your businesses and facilities and how you intend to deal with them.

“Climate change poses a risk to our economy as well as to the lives and livelihoods of Americans, and we must act now,” said national climate advisor Gina McCarthy on Thursday during a press briefing. “This roadmap isn’t just about protecting our financial system – it’s about protecting people, their paychecks and their wealth.”

“We have a clear focus on how climate change poses a systemic risk to our economy,” said Deputy Director of the National Economic Council, Bharat Ramamurti, at the press conference. “We take a precautionary approach that recognizes that inaction is not an option.”

The report is entitled “A Roadmap to Build a Climate-Resilient Economy”.

President Joe Biden has also called on the Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, the head of the Board of Directors for Financial Stability and financial regulators to report on financial climate risk data. This report has not yet been published.

The President and the First Lady are traveling to Europe in two weeks, with the global climate crisis in the foreground of Biden’s agenda. Biden will also be traveling to Glasgow, Scotland, to attend the Parties’ UN Climate Change Conference, or COP26, in early November.

New Zealand Covid replace: instances drop to 15 as Ardern unveils ‘Mr Whippy-style’ vaccination buses | New Zealand

Covid-19 cases in New Zealand have fallen, a hopeful sign as Auckland steps into the government-planned final week of Level 4 lockdown.

The country announced 15 new cases on Tuesday, halving the number of cases from monday 33.

At this stage of the outbreak, the government is paying special attention to how many of these cases are clearly related to existing infections, as unlinked cases could suggest that the virus is spreading uncontrollably across the community. All of the cases on Tuesday were household contacts of existing cases, said Health Director Dr. Ashley Bloomfield, and the total number of unrelated cases during the outbreak, has dropped to 10 from 17 on Monday.

The Auckland region is now in its fourth week of a level four lockdown, the toughest level of restrictions. The rest of the country exited lockdown last weekalthough there are still some restrictions on gathering size and use of masks. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said Monday the government had made a “fundamental” decision that Auckland would move from alert level four to three next week.

Ardern also announced that from Northland, the country will be rolling out “Mr Whippy-style” mobile vaccination clinics on buses in an attempt to reach communities where vaccines are less accessible.

“In Australia they started doing something similar and called the mobile outreach clinics Jabba the bus,” said Ardern. “I’m sure we can do better.”

“We have some front runners: the double jab ute and the jabbin ‘car.”

In the meantime, officials are pushing up vaccination rates. A total of 66.5% of the eligible population [those aged 12 years and over] received at least one dose of the vaccine and 34% received both doses. The country currently vaccinates about 55,000 people per day, up from a peak of about 90,000 doses per day in late August.

Ardern urged the New Zealanders to get vaccinated. “Just as we have led the world with the success of our elimination strategy, I want New Zealand to lead the world in the future, both in terms of freedoms and our health and wellbeing,” said Ardern. “With high vaccination rates, we can achieve just that.”

Previous Navy unveils its most numerous sizing ever by providing each model in each dimension

Old Navy

(NEW YORK) – Old Navy is advocating size inclusion with the brand’s latest “Bodequality” campaign.

In more than one campaign, the fashion retailer announced that it would completely revise the company’s size range in order to offer every women’s style in every size from 0-30 and XS-4X without price differences.

The brand also confirmed on Wednesday that these changes will roll out in stores and online from August 20.

The store’s entire shopping experience around sizing, store visualization, and more will be fully updated, according to the company.

In 2016, a study published by the International Journal of Fashion Design, Technology and Education found that the average height of an American woman was between 16 and 18.

Earlier this year, the CDC released data for 2015-2018 showing that the average weight of American women is 170.8 pounds and 5 feet 3 inches. In most US stores, these measurements correspond to a trouser size 16 and over, or large to extra large.

However, GMA previously reported that only about 2,000 stores cater to women over size 12, according to Torrid’s CEO Liz Muñoz, compared to more than 60,000 stores selling traditional straight sizes 00-12.

Old Navy President and CEO Nancy Green saw a way to transform the women’s shopping experience by making it more size-independent, more inclusive, and she essentially ran with it.

“Bodqueality is not a one-time campaign, but a complete transformation of our business to serve our customers, based on years of working closely with them to research their needs,” said Green. “I’m proud of our Old Navy teams working together to develop the retail experience for women.”

In an effort to provide updated sizes that feel for a variety of body types, Old Navy performed 389 body scans to create digital avatars based on real female bodies.

Fit clinics with models wearing sizes 20-28 have also been run to build new fit blocks based on each of their unique proportions.

Old Navy also said it has teamed up with full-time fit models in sizes 8-20 to review the brand’s updated styles.

Similar to other big stores like Nike and most recently Victoria’s Secret, the company will offer mannequins in a variety of sizes like four, 12 and 18.

Online shoppers can also use a new toggle feature that allows them to choose their preferred standard model display.

Prior to introducing Bodequality, Old Navy offered sizes 0-14 as part of its women’s collection and sizes 16-30 as part of its Women’s Plus collection. With the new initiative, all women’s sizes will be integrated so that all customers with the same product access can share the same brand experience.

Several other retailers have a designated plus size area, but Old Navy also eschews separate areas, creating space for everything to be presented in one place, both in-store and online.

The price will now also be the same throughout the dimensioning process. Before Bodequality, there was a price difference between straight sizes and the Plus collection.

“Traditionally, making larger-sized garments requires more fabric and a different production process,” an Old Navy spokesman told GMA. “When introducing Bodequality, we changed our process so that we could create price parity for everyone.”

Old Navy employees also take customer-centric training courses to help create an environment where everyone feels they belong, the company said.

Old Navy first debuted its first Plus line in 2004 and launched dedicated Plus stores in 75 US stores in 2018. In the following year, the company converted 30 of these locations into size-integrated concept stores.

“Developing Bodequality has allowed us to rethink the way we serve women in retail,” said Alison Partridge Stickney, director of merchandising for women and maternity at Old Navy, in a statement.

“This launch is a transformative moment for our brand and the fashion industry,” said Partridge.

With the aim of getting Bodequality women everywhere, retailers will premier a TV spot in which Emmy-nominated actress and comedian Aidy Bryant dance alongside a diverse group of women to “I Am 100%” by Jarina De Marco.

‘Wrath of Man’ unveils Ritchie’s darkest work to this point | Leisure

Guy Ritchie’s new film “Wrath of Man” begins similarly to Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight”, which was inspired by Michael Mann’s “Heat”.

If you’ve followed Ritchie’s work through the action genre and you see Jason Statham in the appendix, expect something like “The Gentlemen” (2019) or “RocknRolla” (2008). “Wrath of Man” is grumpier; It’s subtly reserved for Ritchie’s flair and sarcasm.

Ritchie continues to borrow elements from Nolan, Mann, and his own previous work as cinematographer Alan Stewart (“Aladdin”, “The Gentlemen”) hovers over buildings and keeps the camera moving during the action. The first 10 minutes of “Wrath of Man” is better than the entirety of “The Gentlemen”.

“He’s overqualified,” notes a Fortico Security Company driver (think of a Brinks armored truck). His assessment of the company’s latest hiring, simply called H (Statham), is not wrong. Calm, relaxed, with little to say when a Fortico Security Truck with over 2 million cash is held up at gunpoint for just one week.

When H takes care of business, his colleagues are stunned. How can the guy who barely passed the rigorous gun, drive, and endurance tests take out a bunch of armed thugs in minutes without a scratch? The company calls H a hero; his new comrades now all want to ride by his side. H’s presence at Fortico has nothing to do with the robbery they suffered a month ago when two veterans and a bystander were killed.

The work of the composer Christopher Benstead on this film did not go unheard. Its deep base also comes from the Dark Knight series. It’s the kind of music that not only helps what’s going on, but creates much of the tension on the screen and requires your full, undivided attention.

Part of Ritchie withdrawing part of its signature style means discovering a new style. There’s a real embrace from the dark, from the cloakroom, the lighting, even the silence. Here “Wrath of Man” moves into the area of John Wick.

You’ve never heard of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues” being used the way Ritchie uses it here. Violence is the starting point for a Ritchie film, but the automatic gun tones are pulsating and it ensures that the viewer gets a close look at this in detail.

The real tension of the film is to guess who the inner man is. What works against this movie and everything with Statham is that it only signs up for one type of role and the ending is always inevitable.

Ritchie also makes a statement about predators and, like most, think they are invincible because they forget to look up the food chain. Andy Garcia, who only has two small scenes, gets the most ritchie-esque dialogue in the entire film, but the rest is devoid of carefree moments.

Until we get to the last act I won’t spoil anything, but “Wrath of Man” is much more like the opening sequence of “The Dark Knight” than just thematic elements. It’s like writers Nicolas Boukhrief and Éric Besnard were inspired by the first 10 minutes of Joker’s underhanded robbery and turned it into a scary action thriller.

Final thought: Guy Ritchie reticent reveals the director’s darkest work yet.
