Might stadium cash go to police as a substitute?

Albuquerque voters will decide this fall whether the city should invest in a new multi-purpose football stadium, using millions of dollars that the project’s supporters say would otherwise not go to crime-fighting.

The narrative, which recently hit social media, bypasses the fact that the money tied up in the proposed $ 50 million stadium loan is being legally spent on public safety – or many other basic city services should the bond fail.

If voters approve the stadium bond when they vote on November 2nd, the city would borrow $ 50 million by issuing bonds to design and build the venue. The city would mortgage gross tax receipts to pay off the resulting debt – officials estimate payments will amount to about $ 3.2 million a year for 20 years.

BRT is the tax that is levied on the sale of goods and services. It’s more flexible than some sources of income; the city can use it for capital expenditures such as buildings as well as basic city operations. GRT is the lifeblood of the city’s general fund, which covers police and firefighters salaries, park maintenance, road maintenance, animal shelters, and more.

But amid criticism from some residents that the city has much greater needs than a football stadium, a stadium-friendly political action committee recently created an information graphic that differentiates between the money the city would spend on the stadium and the money the city would spend on the stadium used them for crime fighting.

The committee, NM For Art & Sport, is so far funded entirely by New Mexico United, according to recent campaign funding reports. United is the professional football team that, through a lease with the city, would be the main tenant of the new stadium.

It is also quite possible that the 100 percent proposal is just a prelude and that the Bills are willing to partially finance the stadium with Pegula funds or PSLs. Regardless, the end result will surely be somewhere between 100 percent and zero; the fact that everything is supposed to be covered by taxpayers’ money suggests that the total death toll is closer to 100 than zero.

We’ll see where it goes from here. The Pegulas supposedly want a quick fix. The current lease expires in 2023. So the clock is ticking and the battle lines come into focus. At a time when Bills fans have reason to look forward to their team, they may soon have to worry about the potential exit.

Professional minor league baseball is back with the Jersey Shore BlueClaws. BlueClaws fans could see their team in action on May 4th as they opened their 2021 season at home in FirstEnergy Park.

One of the most popular summer pastimes on the Jersey Shore is back. Professional minor league baseball and its fan-friendly environment have returned to FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood after a year of absence due to the pandemic with the Jersey Shore BlueClaws.

The BlueClaws, a minor league subsidiary of the Philadelphia Phillies, officially opened the 2021 season on May 4th at FirstEnergy Park.

“There is a lot of excitement,” said BlueClaws director of communications and radio station Greg Giombarrese. “It’s been a unique year for us with the name change, the promotion and the 614 days between the season opener and our last game.”

As expected, the response from the population and regional companies was positive. When tickets went on sale, the public devoured them. Since the BlueClaws played their first home game in 2001, nearly 8 million people have walked through the turnstiles to watch a game. Catching a BlueClaws game became a must.

“The players have come one step closer to the Major Leagues,” said Giombarrese.

Bei der ersten Erweiterung des Wild Horse Pass Hotel & Casino seit seiner Eröffnung im Jahr 2009 am 5040 Wild Horse Pass Blvd. ist der Aufbau eines 11-stöckigen zweiten Turms nahezu abgeschlossen.

Es werden 205 Gästezimmer hinzugefügt, darunter 37 Suiten – zwei davon 1.500 Quadratmeter große Platinum-Suiten – und der Lagerbestand des Hotels auf 447 Zimmer erhöht. Der neue Turm wird über ein Restaurant auf dem Dach verfügen, das einen Speisesaal mit Blick auf den Sonnenuntergang über den Estrella-Bergen bietet. Gerade als die Fertigstellung von Loop 202 den Zugang zum Wild Horse Pass vom West Valley aus eröffnete, dauerte die dreijährige Laufzeit I-10 Broadway-Kurvenprojekt, das diesen Sommer von der Interstate 17 in der Nähe der Innenstadt von Phoenix nach Süden bis zur Schleife 202 beginnen soll, wird den Zugang vom Stadtzentrum und vom North Valley aus verbessern.

Das Projekt wird eine zusätzliche Fahrspur in jede Richtung und einen neuen Verkehrsknotenpunkt an der State Route 143 hinzufügen, um die Verbindung zum internationalen Flughafen Phoenix Sky Harbor zu verbessern.

Die Erweiterung der I-10 nach Süden bis zur Casa Grande wird noch weiter fortgeschritten sein, aber das Verkehrsministerium von Arizona hat in Zusammenarbeit mit der Gila River Indian Community, dem Bureau of Indian Affairs, der Federal Highway Administration und der Maricopa Association of Governments eine Studie begonnen ein Ziel der Reduzierung von Verkehrsstaus auf der Autobahn an der Ausfahrt Wild Horse Pass.
