San Diego Man Sentenced for Killing Spouse in Execution-Fashion Taking pictures – NBC 7 San Diego

A man accused of killing the mother of his two children on the day she was about to deliver divorce papers to him learned of his fate in court on Monday.

Julia Maria Serrano Avila, 29, was murdered in a shooting in December 2019. Her husband, 28-year-old Fernando Avila, was arrested as the sole suspect.

Avila later pleaded guilty to first degree murder charges and firearm charges on the case.

On Monday, Avila was sentenced to 35 years in prison by a district judge in San Diego.

During the verdict on Monday, Avila apologized to Julia’s family “for having suffered so much pain” and her children “for taking their mother away from them.”

Julia Avila was shot dead on the street outside a pawn shop in City Heights, the prosecutor said, just blocks from the house where she lived with the couple’s two children.

The victim’s father described her alleged killer as lazy and not good. NBC 7’s Jackie Crea has the story.

San Diego police said at least three people watched the shooting. Violeta Marquez, who lives next to the family, told NBC 7 the first time she heard screams and called 911. Then she saw Avila fire two shots at his wife

“She was sitting on the sidewalk and I don’t know what he told her,” said Marquez. “And just like seconds he shot her again.”

Avila stayed and held her before running away on foot, Marquez said.

Witnesses said the couple quarreled prior to the shooting, which took place just blocks from Rosa Parks Elementary School and the neighborhood’s city center.

Sgt. Michelle Velovich said the argument started at her home and spread to the street and eventually outside the pawn shop, which is unrelated to the suspect or the victim.

The national domestic violence hotline is 1-800-799-7233. NBC 7’s Catherine Garcia sits down with District Attorney Summer Stephan to discuss domestic violence resources available to victims.

It was not clear how many, if any, of the shots the children witnessed, but they were in the house at the time. The children, identified by neighbors as between 8 and 12 years old, were brought to live with family members, SDPD said.

NBC 7 learned that Julia filed for divorce in November 2019. She intended to serve Avila with these papers, her father Pablo Serrano told NBC 7.

  • Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has cut two items from the state budget that would have been allocated to LGBT youth survivors of the Pulse shootout.

On the second day of Pride Month, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis vetoed two support programs for the LGBT community in Orlando.

With his veto right to individual items in the state budget, which enables him to allocate individual funds in the State budget of $ 100 billion For the coming fiscal year, DeSantis has cut $ 150,000 in funding for the LGBT + Center in Orlando. That money would have been used for mental health and counseling services for Pulse gun survivors, Pulse survivor and local activist Brandon Wolf pointed out on Twitter.

Here is @GovRonDeSantis Standing on sacred ground in 2019, promising me that he will always support those of us affected by the Pulse nightclub shootings.

Today he vetoed mental health services for us. I will never forget. pic.twitter.com/huW8NJbVlP

In addition, DeSantis vetoed government funding for the Zebra coalition. This group plans to convert part of an unused hotel owned by Park Lake Presbyterian Church into one Housing for homeless LGBT + youth. The state budget made available to DeSantis provided $ 50,000 for the project. As the state representative Anna Eskamani emphasized on Twitter, the change came just one day after it was signed bigoted bill for trans student athletes.

Yesterday @GovRonDeSantis signed a law against trans children. Now on the 2nd day of #Proud Month he vetoed two #LGBTQ Programs, one for homeless youth and the other for the mental health of pulse survivors.

He’s a homophobic and transphobic man who shouldn’t be in office.

Philadelphia capturing: Man killed ‘execution-style’ whereas strolling into East Germantown enterprise

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – The search is on for the shooter who killed a man and injured another in a Philadelphia store Tuesday night.

It happened at about 10 p.m. in a general store on the 1200 block of East Chelten Avenue.

According to Chief Inspector Scott Small, the gunman was following a 23-year-old man as he entered the store and fired a barrage of bullets.

The 23-year-old was shot in the head, back and chest. He was admitted to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

“The gunman walked right behind them from a few yards and started firing numerous shots in the back of his head and back. And the victim then immediately collapsed and fell on the front steps of the variety store … clearly appears to be a homicide,” said Small after watching a video of the shooting.

The second victim, a 27-year-old man, was in the store’s pick-up area when police believe he was hit by stray gunshots.

He was shot in the ankle once and escaped from the store after the shooting. He is currently in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Small says at least eight shots were fired by the shooter, who is still at large at the time.

The Sagittarius is described as a man who all wears dark Nike clothing: a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark sweatpants, and dark slippers. The suspect was last seen walking west on the 1200 block of Chelten Avenue.

The victim has not been identified.

Anyone with information on the shooter is asked to call the police at 215-686-TIPS.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – It’s been a week since the fatal shooting in a nightclub on Youngstown’s south side.

On Friday, Utopia opened its doors for the first time since the incident.

The club’s entertainment director, Michael Riffe, discussed what they did to move forward and stay safe.

Mayoral candidate says he was at Utopia before the shooting and wants the “political” guesswork to end

The owners of Utopia are trying to keep going and hope the community will join them.

“We just want to give something back to everyone who has supported us so much and that’s why we’re opening up again tonight,” said Riffe.

Riffe has been with the club for 10 years.

“I’ve never seen violence before. It was a terrible experience, ”he said.

Officer helps save the lives of women in Youngstown shooting

Shots were fired at the club last weekend during a concert. It had been rented out for an event.

Charles Allen Jr. was killed and two others were injured. Police say everyone was the target of the shooting and that it wasn’t an attack on the LGBTQ + community. Even so, the officers continue to investigate.

“We just wanted everyone to feel safe and know that this wasn’t going to happen. It was a very unfortunate event. I’m still adjusting and trying to do my best after experiencing it, ”said Riffe.

While the club was closed, upgrades were made to its security system. Your number one priority is making sure people know they are safe.

The club received a lot of love and support.

“It was overwhelming. I think I cried all the way home and the rest of the day with just text messages and phone calls and posts on my wall and Utopia’s wall and [owner Earl Winner’s] Wall. It was overwhelming but it is very much appreciated, ”said Riffe.

Like many companies, Utopia was just beginning to emerge from the pandemic. Then this happened, but they have plans to move forward.

“Come out and take part. We’re an all-acceptance club, just because it’s LGBTQ makes everyone welcome, ”said Riffe.

A Woodbridge man was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting outside the Babylon Café in Woodbridge on March 25, in which a 25-year-old man from Stafford was killed.

The police investigation revealed that the victim Kalin Javon Robinson was shot dead when he left the Babylon Café shortly after midnight on Thursday, March 25th. There were no other injuries, and the incident was classified as non-random, according to 1st Sgt. Jonathan Perok, Prince William County Police Secretary.

Clark is being held out of bond pending a trial that has not been made public.

Robinson’s death marks Prince William County’s third murder in 2021, Perok said.

Prince William County Police Chief Peter Newsham on Friday suspended permission to live entertainment at the Babylon Cafe in response to the fatal gunfire and previous serious incidents that occurred outside the nightclub at 3081 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge in recent months , have taken place.

In a tweet, police said Newsham took the move because of security concerns in the community and pending a review of the nightclub’s security plan.

Two murders and at least one other shooting occurred in the nightclub parking lot last year.

On January 23, a 27-year-old man was shot dead in an altercation outside the Babylon Café around 9:25 p.m. that evening. James Lawrence Gregory, 34, of Dumfries, was arrested on March 19 by the US Marshal’s fugitive task force in connection with the shooting, police said.

The victim survived the gunshot wounds, but police have not released details of the extent of his injuries.

Last Christmas Eve, the police were called to the club to investigate the shots of a truck in the parking lot. At the time, a restaurant worker told police that he saw a person shoot a lap in the air before driving off in a large white truck.

There were no injuries in the incident, but the suspect’s truck hit an unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot as it pulled out, police said.

On July 24th, 2020, Charlie Davis III, 28, of Dumfries, was killed in a knife stab outside the club. Police have since arrested and charged a Woodbridge man in connection with the incident.

Attempts to reach the Babylon Cafe for comment on Saturday March 25th were not immediately successful.

Thursday March 25th: Police: Stafford man, 25, killed in gunfire outside Woodbridge nightclub

A 25-year-old Stafford man has died after being hit by multiple bullets in a gunfight outside a Woodbridge nightclub early Thursday morning.

Police have no suspects and are looking for witnesses to the incident, which is being investigated as a murder, according to Prince William County Police Department spokeswoman Renee Carr.

Officials responded at 12:17 a.m. on Thursday, March 25 at Babylon Café, 3081 Golansky Boulevard to investigate a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a man with gunshot wounds, Carr said in a press release.

The officers provided immediate first aid until the rescue personnel arrived. However, the man died as a result of his injuries in a nearby hospital.

The investigation found that a group of people was gathered in the parking lot in front of the nightclub when multiple shots were fired. The man was hit by several rounds as the group dispersed, the press release said.

Detectives from the Prince William County Police Department’s Violent Crime Bureau are actively investigating what led to the shootings and would like to speak to anyone who was present during the shooting and can provide more details about what happened.

The victim was identified as Kalin Javon Robinson, 25, from Stafford.

Anyone with information about this murder is asked to call the Prince William County Police Department at 703-792-7000 or send a web tip to: www.pwcgov.org/policetip.

The nightclub parking lot was the site of at least two violent incidents last year.

On July 24, 2020, a knife stab in front of the Babylon Cafe claimed the life of Charlie Davis III, 28, of Dumfries. Police have since arrested and charged a Woodbridge man in connection with the incident.

Last Christmas Eve, the police were called to the club to investigate the shots of a truck in the parking lot. At the time, a restaurant employee told police that he saw a person shoot a round in the air before driving away in a large white truck.

The investigation found that a suspect brandished a gun and fired a shot after a verbal argument escalated amid a group in the parking lot, according to a police press release.

There were no injuries in the incident, but the suspect’s truck hit an unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot as it was driving away, police said.

Man sentenced to four years for capturing 2 with assault-style rifle at Schererville park | Crime and Courts

Ransom had three crime convictions and was on parole at the time of the Schererville shooting for illegally carrying a gun in Illinois, Villarreal said.

Picking up a fight he was not involved in, he brought a gun and caused life-threatening injuries to two people, she said.

A teenager enlisted Ransom’s help after agreeing to fight a 19-year-old man. Ransom’s 19-year-old and teenage girlfriend wanted to date the same woman who, according to court records, wasn’t interested in either.

Witnesses described the gun that Ransom used to shoot the 19-year-old and his 19-year-old friend as an “Uzi-esque” rifle, Villarreal said. Five other people at the scene were not injured.

The gun was never recovered and Ransom refused to provide a statement to police after he was arrested, she said.

“He didn’t even know these people,” said Villarreal. “He just had a total disregard for her life.”

Villarreal read a victim impact statement from the 19-year-old who had an argument with Ransom’s boyfriend about the woman.

He wrote that he almost lost his leg after a bullet ripped through one of his legs into the other.

When the man was “hanging by a thread” with his leg, he looked over and saw that his friend was being loaded into an ambulance. The friend now has a bullet next to his spine, Villarreal said.

LOS ANGELES – Lady Gaga’s dog walker, who was shot dead in a Hollywood robbery last week when two of the singer’s French bulldogs were stolen, described the violence and recovery “from a very close call to death” on social media Monday .

Ryan Fischer’s posts included pictures from his hospital bed saying, “(Much) remains to be healed,” but he looks forward to reuniting with the dogs.

Fischer was shot and killed once while walking three of Lady Gaga’s dogs on a street just off famous Sunset Boulevard on Wednesday night. The video captured by the doorbell camera of a nearby house kept Fischer’s screams of “Oh my god! I was shot!” and “Help me!” and “I’m bleeding from my chest!”

Police are looking for two men in the attack and said Monday they are still investigating.

The two dogs Koji and Gustav were brought back unharmed on Friday evening when a woman showed up with them at a Los Angeles police station. Detectives don’t believe she was involved in the robbery or shooting, and didn’t know if she would receive the $ 500,000 reward Lady Gaga offered for returning the dogs. The singer is currently in Rome to make a film.

Fischer thanked Lady Gaga for her support during the ordeal and wrote: “Your babies are back and the family is whole … we made it!” in Instagram posts. A third dog named Asia escaped the attackers and lay down next to Fischer “while a car sped away and blood flowed from my gunshot wound,” he wrote.

The doorbell video shows a white limousine pulling up and two men jumping out. They fought the dog walker before one pulled a gun and fired a single shot before escaping with two of the dogs.
