Chinese language electrical automobile start-up Nio reveals a brand new sedan AR VR glasses

The delivery of the et5 electric sedan from Nio is scheduled to begin in September 2022.

BEIJING – Chinese electric car manufacturer Nio unveiled a new sedan and custom augmented reality (AR) glasses that reduce the need for in-car screens on Saturday.

Augmented Reality is a technology for imposing digital images on the real, physical world. In cars, technology can allow drivers to keep their eyes on the road without looking at a dashboard.

Nio said it was partnered with Chinese augmented reality start-up Nreal for the AR glasses of his new sedan ET5.

The electric car is expected to ship in September 2022, with pre-financing prices starting at 328,000 yuan ($ 51,250) for battery-powered models. The AR glasses are not included in the scope of delivery and must be purchased separately according to the company.

On December 18, 2021, Nio CEO William Li will announce customized AR glasses that will be manufactured with the Chinese start-up Nreal.

The ET5 is the second sedan from Nio to hit the market. The company’s first sedan, the ET7, was unveiled in January at a higher starting price before the subsidy of 448,000 yuan, but has not yet started delivery.

Shipment of the ET7 is slated to begin on March 28, 2022, said William Li, founder, chairman and CEO of Nio, at the company’s annual “Nio Day” event on Saturday.

Tesla, WORLD, Xpeng and other electric car makers in China are already selling sedans that have proven popular with local residents.

Nio said its deliveries rebounded in November from a low of 3,667 cars in October, bringing the total to 80,940 vehicles for the first 11 months of the year. The ES6 and EC6 SUVs were among the top 10 New Energy SUVs sold in China this year through November according to the China Passenger Car Association.

Nio wants to enter Germany

In the next year, the electric car maker plans to bring its products and services to Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark, Li said. By 2025, the company aims to reach users in more than 25 countries and regions, he said.

Nio opened a flagship store in Oslo, Norway this year and started delivering vehicles to the electric-car-friendly country that rivals China Xpeng and BYD have also shipped cars.

At the beginning of November, Li announced in a conference call that the company plans to enter Norway in five other countries in Europe next year.

Nios ET5 electric sedan has six options for the interior colors, including the seat belt.

Li told reporters on Sunday that he did not expect Nio to start delivering cars and selling other services in Germany until the end of next year. He did not give a specific date.

Li also declined to provide details on whether Nio, a US-listed company, would offer shares on any other exchange in the short term.

AR / VR investments

Nio’s investment arm Nio Capital is an investor in Nreal. According to a press release, the tailor-made glasses for the ET5 sedan can project an effective screen size of 201 inches by 6 meters.

Nio also announced on Saturday that it had developed virtual reality glasses together with Nolo, another Chinese start-up supported by Nio Capital. Pricing and other details of availability were not disclosed.

Mercedes-Benz unveils new flagship EQS electrical sedan to tackle Tesla

2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS EV

Mercedes Benz

Mercedes-Benz is assuming that its new EQS sedan will redefine the fully electric luxury vehicle segment in the competition Tesla and a growing number of emerging startups and older automakers.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS 2022 presented on Thursday marks a new era for the German automaker as it is switched to electric vehicles. The car will be part of its large S-Class family when it hits US showrooms this fall.

“The EQS was developed to exceed the expectations of even our most demanding customers,” said Mercedes-Benz and Daimler CEO Ola Kaellenius in a 63-page press release on the car. “That’s exactly what a Mercedes has to do to deserve the letter ‘S’ in its name. Because we don’t give this letter lightly.”

Above all, the interior of the vehicle looks more like a cockpit from a futuristic spaceship than a car. It has screens across almost the entire dashboard of the vehicle. In total, it has three screens under a single curved 56-inch glass surface, including a passenger screen that is not visible to the driver.

The automaker hasn’t released pricing for the EQS, but industry experts expect it to be slightly above $ 100,000. The starting price for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class 2021 is between 94,000 and 160,000 US dollars. The Mercedes-Maybach S models can exceed $ 200,000.

“You started at the top,” said Jessica Caldwell, Executive Director of Insights at “This is similar to what we’ve seen with some other automakers. It’s the most expensive vehicle that will come out first.”

The price range for Tesla’s large Model S sedan ranges from $ 79,990 to $ 149,990, including the new high-end, high-performance Model S Plaid.

The interior of the EQS is essentially the opposite of Tesla models with a modern, sleek interior. Some Tesla models only have a large screen in the center of the instrument panel that controls almost all aspects of the vehicle.

The EQS “has to have a trademark to get noticed. I think it will be attractive to some buyers to make people feel very futuristic that they are actually driving something else,” said Caldwell. “But I think the simplified design for Tesla made a lot of people very happy.”

The exterior of the EQS is similar in design to its traditional S-Class siblings, but is a bit more aggressive in relation to the front of the vehicle. A special “Edition One”, which was presented by the company, has a two-tone black and silver paintwork throughout the vehicle.

The car is the first EV on a new vehicle platform for Mercedes-Benz. It also features a new generation of batteries with a significantly higher energy density that allows for a longer range.

The first models to hit the U.S. offer up to 516 horsepower and 611 pound-feet of torque. The fully electric range of the vehicles is expected to be around 770 kilometers.

For the technical area, the vehicle offers a range of safety and comfort functions, including a new driver assistance system that can be used to control the vehicle’s speed and braking as well as support other functions such as changing lanes or keeping the vehicle in the lane. The system is more driver-controlled than other systems from Tesla and General Motors.

The EQS will also include an available augmented reality system including a head-up display that projects three-dimensional graphics such as arrows onto the screens to show drivers where to go.

The EQS is part of Mercedes-Benz’s “Ambition 2039” initiative, which comprises more than half of the cars sold with electric drive systems, including all-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids.

Mercedes-Benz is in a race with other legacy automakers to bring new electric vehicles to market to catch up with industry leader Tesla, which accounts for the majority of all-electric sales in the U.S. They also expect a large number of new competitors like Lucid, which plans to launch a luxury EV later this year.

“I think Mercedes Benz will do a great job on electric vehicles,” said Brian Moody, executive editor at Autotrader. He said they should be a great competitor to Tesla, which he attributes to really showing the auto industry “what people really want when it comes to electric cars.”

“They didn’t want an economy box,” he said. “You want a high-performance car with lots of luxury and you will pay for it.”
