Catie T. who bears the name Millennial money honey on her various social media platforms plans to retire at 35. At 29, according to insider documents, she is only six years away from her goal. And about 30 years ahead of most other people their age.

Catie is part of the FIRE (financial independence / early retirement) community; It’s a movement that came from a 1992 book entitled “Your Money, Your Life” by Vicki Robin and Joe Dominguez.

Corresponding Investopedia, Millennials – who were kids when the book was published – are increasingly the generation embracing FIRE. It is characterized by aggressive savings and investment practices that allow participants to be unemployed before the traditional age of 65.

“I’ve just lived the average millennial life in LA, hanging out with my friends, doing my hair and trying to keep up with the latest fashion trends,” said Catie of her lifestyle before embarking on her FIRE trip.

But at 26, she was at a point in her career where she was making enough money to build decent savings and start thinking more seriously about her financial future.

“I was like, ‘When people are investing, I know I should be investing. I should look at this and find out,” she says. She started doing personal finance research and eventually learned about the FIRE ideology. “I came in headfirst,” she says.

It recently reached an impressive milestone which is known as “Coast FIRE. “Assuming $ 375,000 deposited in various accounts regular market trends, her savings will grow so much that she won’t have to invest another dollar to become financially independent at 65. In this way, it can “expire” into retirement without any problems.

How she set her retirement goal

To find out how much she needed to save, “I estimated my yearly spending to be about $ 30,000 a year, and then I doubled it just to allow for a margin of safety,” she explains.

For example, suppose she needs $ 60,000 for each year of retirement, she has it 4% rule to determine their target amount for the annuity portfolio. An easy way to work out this number is to multiply your desired annual income by 25, which Catie did and gave her $ 1.5 million.

“It would only be $ 750,000 for me, but I’m just on the nervous and cautious side,” she said. Doubling their annual amount provides them with convenience and a safety net.

1. She tracked – and changed – her spending habits

Before making any major lifestyle changes, she tracked her expenses for a few months to get a better picture of her financial condition. “I didn’t even know where my money was going beforehand,” she explains.

After that, she was able to be more strategic with her decisions. It’s about figuring out those “little tweaks,” she says.

For example, Catie quickly found that she was spending more money on personal hygiene and aesthetic services than she wanted. “‘I’m very fortunate that my parents let me live rent-free to help me with my dream,” she says. This change has helped accelerate your invested income.

5. While saving a large portion of her income, she still enjoys life

Catie saves about 80% of her income, a common percentage for many who participate in FIRE. But for some, this high savings rate is one of the most unattractive qualities of the movement.

It is often assumed that putting so much aside must also mean depriving yourself of today’s joys.

But she doesn’t live like that. “I am extremely conscious of my expenses,” she explains. She still goes out to eat and drink with friends. She will spend money on travel – if the pandemic allows it. “I found out what makes me happy,” she says.

To do the things she loves, she cuts out other things, like expensive clothes or hair treatments. She doesn’t plan her daily expenses, but she knows her expenses and makes sure that she always has enough in her checking account to cover them.

She also makes sure that she uses some of her money to celebrate her victories and milestones. “It’s a long journey, it doesn’t happen overnight, it will take years and years,” she says. But she is determined to enjoy the ride as much as the destination.

Indian airline IndiGo expects to achieve pre-Covid capability by end-2021

SINGAPORE – India’s low-cost airline IndiGo may struggle with its international operations, but the division could fully recover by the end of the year, the airline’s chief executive told CNBC this week.

Ronojoy Dutta from IndiGo, which is operated by InterGlobe Aviationsaid the split between domestic and international segments for the airline was a “story of two cities”.

The domestic recovery has been strong, while the overseas recovery has brought “all the challenges of Covid and testing and quarantine,” he told CNBC “Street Signs Asia” On Monday.

The country last week extended a ban on international commercial passenger flights until the end of February. Local trips were allowed to resume in May.

IndiGo is a low cost airline that mainly operates domestic flights India’s largest passenger airline.

“I think we should reach 100% inland capacity by April at the latest,” Dutta predicted. “Internationally will open more slowly, but by the end of the calendar year 2021 we should also be at the level before Covid internationally.”

This forecast is more optimistic than other airline executives. Tony Fernandes, CEO of AirAsia, told CNBC Passenger capacity is unlikely to reach pre-coronavirus levels by 2023.

Emirates President Tim Clark said in November The airline aims to return to profitability in 2022.

“Growth opportunities”

IndiGos Dutta also sees the airline’s prospects as positive after the end of the coronavirus situation.

“Once the pandemic crisis is behind us, we see many growth opportunities,” he said.

He said India has very little air traffic penetration and there will be “a large amount of pent-up demand” when the economy recovers.

QCT and Teen REACH associate for Quincy Teen Voices | Arts & Leisure

QUINCY – In early 2020, members of the Quincy Community Theater discussed ideas with Quincy’s Teen REACH (Responsibility, Education, Achievement, Caring, Hope) program to find a way for children to express themselves in the program and get a taste of theater life . And then, as was often the case last year, all plans had to be put on hold.

Towards the end of 2020, the new Healing Illinois Scholarship, partnered with the Illinois Department of Human Services and the Chicago Community Trust, announced QCT as recipients, and the plan has been put into action again.

The idea of ​​Quincy Teen Voices was born when QCT’s Student Theater Director and Head of Education, Brendan Shea, worked with Chris Turner, Program Manager at Teen REACH.

“Quincy Teen Voices is a perfect synthesis of the missions of our two organizations,” said Shea. “I am very excited to be working with a thoughtful, diverse ensemble of teenagers on this important project.”

Quincy Teen Voices brings together a diverse cast of local teenagers to create a short play inspired by students’ real-life experiences of racial injustice, friendship, and coming of age in Central America. During several weeks of workshops at Teen REACH and the Quincy Community Theater, the original play was created using each student’s writings, improvisation games and discussion groups.

Final production began last week and will be available via streaming on February 22nd.

Cheryl Williams is the administrator of Bella Ease, a non-profit group that administers the Teen REACH program in Quincy. She expressed her hope that the program will teach participants that they have the freedom to speak their minds.

“Teen REACH is excited to partner with QCT to provide our youth with a platform to empower them,” Williams said in a statement. “Not just in their lives, but in our community.”

Indonesia will take not less than a 12 months to achieve Covid ‘herd immunity’: Minister

SINGAPORE – Indonesia will take at least a year for a sufficient portion of its population to be immune to Covid-19, the country’s finance minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati told CNBC, stressing that the government must continue spending to support the economy.

“We see that the pandemic is not waning and we need to remain vigilant,” Sri Mulyani told CNBC on Monday as part of reporting on Davos Agenda of the World Economic Forum.

Indonesia started its Covid-19 vaccination program Earlier this month after approval for an emergency Vaccine developed by China’s Sinovac Biotech.

Sri Mulyani said conservative estimates by experts showed it takes Indonesia about 15 months to vaccinate around 180 million people to reach “Herd Immunity.” This occurs when enough people in a population develop protection against a disease so that it can no longer easily spread.

But President Joko Widodo wants to “speed up” this process to achieve herd immunity within 12 months – which is a “daunting task,” said Sri Mulyani, given the geographic spread of the country. Indonesia and the Philippines have the highest number of cumulative Covid cases in Southeast Asia, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Indonesia has reported more than 989,200 cumulative infections and over 27,800 deaths. While the Philippines recorded more than 513,600 cases and over 10,200 deaths, Hopkins data showed.

Dominguez said the Philippine government has provided funding for the country’s vaccination program, which is estimated to cost an estimated 82.5 billion Philippine pesos ($ 1.7 billion).

Similarly, Sri Mulyani said Indonesia would prioritize spending on vaccines as well as continued support for low-income households and small businesses.
