Life and elegance with Erin Hicks – Sooke Information Mirror

– Words by Lia Crowe Photography by Darren Hull

The definition of good style means for Erin never trying to be someone else, knowing yourself and letting your own personality shine through in your style.

“My mom always had great style,” says Erin. “She always looks great no matter what she’s doing. She has greatly influenced my style over the years. She taught me to take care of myself, to be proud of my looks and not save clothes for special occasions – wear what you want and feel great every day.”

When asked what’s the best lesson she’s learned in the past five years, Erin says, “It’s to take care of yourself. Being a mom of three busy kids can be all consuming and draining, so you always have to make time to take care of yourself.”

Life and Type with Mari O’Meara – Oak Bay Information

– Text and photos by Lia Crowe

I meet Mari at an incredible ten mile point house she designed and as we walk around the exterior she is pleased to see the house a little busier now and the gardens more mature and full.

“The part that gives me a huge boost is walking through the finished house with our clients,” says Mari when I ask her which aspect of her work excites her the most. “The facial expression is priceless!”

Straightforward and to the point, Mari says the trait she possesses that has led to her success is to “keep going.”

When asked what is the best life lesson she’s learned, she says, “Life is too short, so seize the moment.”

When it comes to style, Mari laughs and says her personal style is “boring”.

At house | Dreamy Grasp Bedrooms | Life & Model Journal

by Angela Rowe Of Decorating Den Interiors

Much more than just the place to sleep, today’s master bedroom should act as a truly personal home retreat. Your bedroom is or should be a retreat from everyday life and a quiet place to relax.

Before diving into a new design, it is important to develop a decorating plan. In addition to sleeping, would you like a comfortable chair to relax and read, or perhaps a desk for your daily diary entries? If you love to watch TV in the bedroom, would you like to watch it from a chair or just from the bed? Without a major addition to the house, do you have room for all of the activities you want to do in the bedroom? All of these questions are critical to developing a plan.

The focal point in every bedroom is of course the bed.

The sleeping possibilities are varied and can meet almost every taste under the sun. A big goal when choosing a bed is style. From plain and simple modern to traditionally stained wood and everything in between – choosing your personal favorite is the starting point for every bedroom design. Padded headboards are very popular because they offer texture, color, and comfort to sit back and read or watch your favorite Netflix, and can suit any style depending on the fabric and shape.

That questions the color. Do you prefer calm neutrals or a more dramatic theme? Keeping colors bright or pale will help reflect rays of light instead of absorbing them, which is good if the room isn’t quite as big as you’d like it to be. Conversely, the use of strong colors creates a drama and helps, if the room is extremely large, to warm it up and humanize it.

Next, the million dollar question is bedding.

“Bed-in-a-bag” hardly fits on a “standard” bed because there is no such thing as a standard bed. When mattress makers started making pillow tops and super deep mattresses, we all went out of the way. Start by measuring the top of the bed and the waste on the sides plus a few inches to see exactly the size you need. All king beds are not the same size.

Next, let’s move on to the windows.

In more than any other room in the house, the window decorations in a bedroom need to be both beautiful and functional. Many of my clients insist on room darkening treatments while others just want privacy. These questions fall into the interior plan and should be considered before designing the bedroom. If your bedroom has a beautiful view, you want a treatment that is easy to use and that opens up to clearly show the view.

Bedside tables can run the gauntlet from large storage cabinets to dainty decorative side tables. Don’t feel like the side tables have to go together. Gone are the days of Matchy-Matchy 5-piece bedroom sets.

Have fun mixing textures, sizes, stained and varnished wood, and mirrored parts in the redesigned bedroom.

Britney Spears’ father petitions to finish conservatorship that controls her life, cash

LOS ANGELES – Britney Spears’ father filed on Tuesday to quit the judicial conservatory that has controlled the singer’s life and money for 13 years.

James Spears filed his motion to terminate the conservatoires in the Los Angeles Superior Court.

“As Mr. Spears has repeatedly said, he only wants what is best for his daughter,” the document reads. “If Mrs. Spears wants to quit the conservatory and thinks she can manage her own life, Mr. Spears believes she should get this chance.”

Judge Brenda Penny, who oversees the case, must approve the move.

There was no instant response to an email soliciting Britney Spears’ attorney for comment.

James Spears has been the target of much of the anger for the Conservatory of both his daughter and the public.

A motion from Britney Spears’ attorney to have him removed should be heard at the next hearing on the case on September 29th.

James Spears said in a filing on Aug. 12 that he was planning to step down as curator of their finances, but did not offer a schedule. He gave up his control over their life choices in 2019 and only kept his role of overseeing their money.

He has repeatedly said that there is no justification for his removal and that he was only acting in the best interests of his daughter.

The Conservatory was founded in 2008 when Britney Spears began to have very public mental battles, when the media became obsessed with every moment, hordes of paparazzi aggressively followed her everywhere, and she lost custody of her children.

Tuesday’s file cited how Britney Spears’ “passionate plea” rejected the legal agreement in a speech in court on Jan.

“I just want my life back,” said Britney Spears. “And it’s been 13 years and it’s enough. It’s been a long time since I owned my money. And it is my wish and my dream that it all end unchecked.”

Tuesday’s filing notes that Spears said she didn’t know she could petition to end the Conservatory, which she has yet to do. Penny’s decision to hire her own attorney, Mathew Rosengart, shows that the court is entrusting her with important decisions. And it is said that evidence shows she appeared to have “demonstrated a level of independence” by, for example, driving around Southern California herself.

It also cites her desire to make her own decisions about therapy and other medical care.

Spears had said in her June 23 speech that under the Conservatory she was forced to take certain drugs against her will and use an intrauterine device to control births.

James Spears called for an investigation into these and other allegations, saying they were issues beyond his control as he resigned as curator of his daughter’s person and turned the role over to court-appointed professional Jodi Montgomery.

Rosengart, Britney Spears’ new attorney, said when he was hired in July that he wanted to help end the conservatories.

He said instead that his first priority was getting rid of James Spears, whom he asked to step down on his first court appearance.

Rosengart requested the removal of James Spears on July 26 on the grounds that he had mismanaged his daughter’s money and affairs, suggesting that he had used the conservatories for his own benefit. The judge denied him an emergency hearing on the matter and said it could be heard in September in due course.

The attorney said he welcomed James Spears’ announcement that he would eventually step down, but said it would not slow his efforts to get him removed.

Spears has commended the Conservatory’s early existence for keeping her career afloat, although she has now completely put her work on hold for more than two years.

Fans who objected to their circumstances and saw what they thought were calls for help on the pop star’s Instagram posts called #FreeBritney online and appeared before their court hearings to protest.

Famous names from Miley Cyrus to Britney Spears ‘ex Justin Timberlake have joined the outcry in recent months, especially after Spears’ passionate courtroom speeches in June and July.

Penny, the judge with ultimate power over the Conservatory, never seems inclined to end it, but neither has she ever had such a clear opportunity.

Charlie Watts’s stylist William Gilchrist on the Stones drummer’s life and magnificence

Time and space, the rhythm that a drummer cultivates, the silence, interrupted by a nuanced, expressive beat. Seconds, microseconds, centimeters, millimeters: Charlie Watts knew exactly how and when to act, be it in pursuit of music production or en route to have a suit made, it was impeccable.

Elegance, style, and wit are three adjectives you’ve seen in many of the tributes to Charlie Watts written over the past week. He was curious and appreciated the magic that life offered him and also the craftsmen who make our world a better place – they were a constant source of joy for Charlie and that inclusive spirit was experienced by everyone around him.

Charlie could spend hours marveling at the magnificence of artifacts in museums and galleries around the world and just as much time discussing fabrics and finishes with his tailor. His joy was always palpable when I watched him wade through the fields of color; acknowledge, feel and reflect. It was a joy that I found contagious.

To truly appreciate simplicity, one must ensure and respect quality and dedication. Charlie did. Just as the rhythm created by his drumsticks drifted, coralized and seduced with the simplest of gestures, his ability to be a whispering hurricane was unique. Its light was a glow that had the power and effect of lightning.

As a collector in a variety of worlds and objects, from civil war weapons to vintage watches and pieces from Edward VIII eyes own wardrobe. That conversation went from thoroughbred horses to Stubbs and from Charlie Parker to Wild Horses and his beloved family, and you knew you would be hanging out with one of life’s finest craftsmen.

It hurts to think that he is elsewhere now, and my heart goes out to his family who adored him. On behalf of the millions of lives he has touched, all I can say is, “Thank you, Charles”.

Lake Metropolis hopes federal cash will convey new life to empty, deserted properties

LAKE CITY, SC (WMBF) – Lake City neighbors are fed up with the empty and abandoned homes in their area, and the city’s mayor is hoping federal money can change that.

The City of Lake City requested a community development bloc grant that the mayor intends to use to revitalize the neighborhoods.

Lake City Mayor Lovith Anderson said many of the vacant and run-down lots in the area have caused problems for neighbors.

He said he would use the grant money to demolish and rebuild houses and rehabilitate the neighborhoods.

“Housing is a huge need in South Carolina. And rural areas are no less inundated with people looking for a place to stay than the larger communities, and we need people in solid structures in the wind zone we are in, “said Anderson.

He added that his goal is to make Lake City more attractive to people who want to live there.

“We lost a little population during the last census, not a lot, so we want to bring that back in and gain a lot more,” said Anderson.

A scholarship public hearing will be held Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at the Lake City Senior Center.

I love that every day is different – it literally is, ”says Scarlett, describing what excites her most about her work in real estate. “I love the people, the challenge, the fast-paced environment, and I love helping people make their real estate dreams come true. It all makes me happy. “

When asked which daily practice has led to her success, she replies: “Don’t leave anything until the last minute. When I get a task, I do it ASAP and I deliver the highest quality the first time. Otherwise you will work twice as hard and delay your customers’ success.

Immediately after graduation, I kept moving in the direction of growth opportunities – be it for work, for further training or to gain the experience I have today. Not waiting helped me to offer my customers the best. ”

Although Scarlett’s style is a mix and variety for the occasion, she tends towards classic pieces combined with current trends. “In the beginning I like timeless pieces and then I like to combine fashion that suits my body type, even if the trends go in a different direction. I always like to add a twist to every outfit to bring it all together. “
