Biden says Covid surge must be solved at state stage, vows full federal assist

president Joe Biden on Monday pledged to support governors struggling with the Omicron variant of Covid-19, but admitted that states must take the lead in controlling the pandemic.

Shortly before a meeting with some of the country’s governors, Biden said: “There is no federal solution. This will be resolved at the state level. “

These comments constitute one of the Biden’s government’s most prominent admissions to date that it is in its efforts to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

The president may be concerned that federal initiatives to contain the virus cannot be effective without the help of states. The comments could also be an attempt to put additional pressure on governors to play a bigger role in fighting the disease.

The White House did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for clarification.

After his remarks, Biden asked whether he supported revised recommendations for reduced quarantine times.

“I rely on my medical team. I get a recommendation, I follow it,” he said.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently launched theirs Recommendations for people who may have been exposed to the virus. Instead of the recommended standard 14-day quarantine, the CDC says suspected exposures should result in a 10 or seven day quarantine based on test results and symptoms.

The Omicron variant poses a multi-faceted threat to Biden, who advocates the federal government’s ability to contain the pandemic. The president on Monday reiterated some of the promises he made last week, including the federal government’s purchase of 500 million rapid coronavirus tests.

“My message to the governors is simple: if you need something, say something,” he said. “We’ll keep your back free as best we can.”

The government plans to distribute the tests to Americans for free, support more vaccination and testing centers, and deploy 1,000 military medics to increase hospital staff nationwide.

But the virus’ ability to mutate, spread, and occasionally result in positive cases in those who received a vaccine has made the government’s promise to slow the disease down difficult. The virus and vaccine have both blossomed into political football. Many Americans, especially those who support former President Donald Trump, refuse to get vaccinated.

Given the nationwide differences in attitudes towards the virus and public safety priorities, governors’ responses to the Biden government’s efforts have been mixed.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican, an implementing regulation in. enact October prohibits all entities, including private companies, from from the imposition of Covid-19 vaccination obligations on employees or customers. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is considered a Republican presidential candidate in 2024, has been breaking away from federal public health guidelines and restricting mask and vaccine mandates in recent months.

The president’s remarks came as Covid-19 cases spiked over the Christmas holiday weekend.

The highly contagious variant of Omicron has reported more coronavirus cases in a handful of states, including New Jersey and New York, in the past week than any other seven-day period during the pandemic.

While initial signs suggest the variant could cause milder symptoms, health experts are calling for strict public safety protocols, saying that the variant’s rapid spread could put strain on the US hospital system and lead to more deaths.

“Every day it goes up and up. The last weekly average was around 150,000 and it will likely go much higher,” said US infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci said “This Week” on the ABC show on Sunday.

On Wednesday, before the holiday weekend disrupted Covid trackers, the seven-day national average of new daily cases topped 176,000, a 44% increase over the past 14 days. The number of deaths also rose during this period from 1,103 to a seven-day average of 1,213.

The program called FreshPass allows subscribers to get unlimited free grocery deliveries, reports Progressive grocer. FreshPass, an optional service added to Albertsons’ existing apps, costs $ 99 per year or $ 12.99 per month. With a subscription, buyers get free shipping for orders of $ 30 or more.

The grocer is offering a 30-day free trial with a five percent discount on some of its private label products and ongoing perks like food and wine experiences to encourage adoption. Albertsons is also introducing two more new digital offerings – a Deals & Delivery app and an improved loyalty program. The loyalty program called Albertsons For U will automatically include members of the grocer’s previous program.

The cost of the Albertsons FreshPass program is roughly the same as the new one from Walmart Walmart + Subscription service (which offers unlimited free shipping and various other perks) and about $ 20 cheaper per year than Amazon Prime.

Even before the novel coronavirus pandemic, surveys showed that a majority of customers preferred free and fast shipping for e-commerce orders. Covid cases in the US have fallen to their lowest level since June as the nation prepares for Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial start of the summer travel season.

The seven-day average of new infections is around 26,000 on Sunday, according to Johns Hopkins University. That’s the lowest number since June last year.

The decline in falls is a hopeful sign, especially as many Americans plan to travel, spend days on the beach, and hang out with friends and family over the summer. It is the latest in a series of milestones that signal a reopening of the economy and a gradual return to a more typical way of life.

LONDON – The head of the World Health Organization said on Friday an alarming trend of rising Covid cases had caused infections worldwide to reach their highest level since the pandemic began.

“Worldwide cases and deaths continue to rise at a worrying rate,” WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a briefing on Papua New Guinea and the western Pacific.

“Globally, the number of new cases per week has almost doubled in the past two months. This is approaching the highest infection rate we’ve seen to date during the pandemic,” he continued.

“Some countries that previously avoided widespread transmission are now seeing large increases in infections,” Tedros said, citing Papua New Guinea as an example.

Tedros said the United Nations Department of Health will continue to assess developments in the coronavirus crisis and “adjust advice accordingly”.

According to international health regulations, Tedros said the WHO emergency committee met on Thursday and he expected to receive their advice on Monday.

“Globally, our message to all people in all countries remains the same. We all play a role in ending the pandemic,” he said.

To date, more than 139 million Covid cases have been reported worldwide, with 2.9 million deaths. This is based on data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

The WHO declared the coronavirus a global pandemic on March 11th last year.

Yesterday he wore his most Parisian look so far: skinny jeans with a tasteful button-up blazer in brown and a simple white T-shirt. Fulop today announced a new partnership with Devils Arena Entertainment (DAE), the largest entertainment provider in New Jersey and operator of the Prudential Center, one of the ten most booked arenas in North America, to sign a unique $ 72 million agreement for the transformative restoration of the historic Loew’s Theater. The revitalization aims to transform the centuries-old theater into a state-of-the-art, 3,300-seat venue that will attract superstars and emerging artists, act as the engine of economic development and hub for the local Journal Square community, and expand Jersey City’s growing reputation as an unparalleled arts destination in the New Jersey.

About Löws Theater

Loew’s Jersey is one of five “Wonder Theaters” built in the Tristate area in the late 1920s by Loew’s Corporation, which founded and owned MGM Studios and was one of the most important presenters of live stage shows and films at the time were.
