Life and elegance with Erin Hicks – Sooke Information Mirror

– Words by Lia Crowe Photography by Darren Hull

The definition of good style means for Erin never trying to be someone else, knowing yourself and letting your own personality shine through in your style.

“My mom always had great style,” says Erin. “She always looks great no matter what she’s doing. She has greatly influenced my style over the years. She taught me to take care of myself, to be proud of my looks and not save clothes for special occasions – wear what you want and feel great every day.”

When asked what’s the best lesson she’s learned in the past five years, Erin says, “It’s to take care of yourself. Being a mom of three busy kids can be all consuming and draining, so you always have to make time to take care of yourself.”

The Type Diaries of Angelica Hicks

Welcome to Style diaries, a new series in which we examine the physical manifestations of our Closet Tours IRL. We ask friends and taste makers to show us what they * actually * wear during the week and give us a glimpse into their thoughts on the current state of fashion. This week we’re talking to an artist and an illustrator Angelica Hicks. Obviously, a woman with a lot of fashion interests, you can find Hicks in either a white blouse and jeans, or bright prints.

What is your style * actually * like at the moment?

“Quite loud and quite experimental. I enjoy putting together ‘outfits’ – it’s a nice part of my morning routine.

“This is a very simple outfit that basically shows off the shirt. The shirt is made by the very talented, sustainable couturier graduate from Central Saint Martin’s. Larissa Von Planta. Everything she does is 100 percent upcycled and this shirt is made from old Austrian curtains! I love the tightening at the waist and the asymmetrical sleeves – I love the fact that one is long. I like to wear it under this coat because it shows off the cuffs. The coat is also the perfect comfortable spring coat. I’m a big fan of the wool gingham because it makes the print appear fuzzy. It’s a simple look that makes me feel good. ”

Do you have an outfit formula or a preferred style?

“Maximum than minimum, but I also love jeans – jeans with a clean shirt. Otherwise, I just mix the hell out of prints.”

“My mother gave me this hat for Christmas, and I feel like it completes the look better than a jacket. I like the symmetry of the plain black hat and the plain black boots that tie the colorful sweater and skirt together nicely . Tired but true. The leopard is a fantastic, vivacious neutral. The sweater was also a gift (from my sister for my birthday) so this outfit is probably the gift I keep giving. The boots I’ve been with since mine Was 17 – They were my first big purchase. I was always quite tall so I wore them in terrible Herve Leger clothes to “clubbing” around London. I kept them all the time and I think it’s pretty funny how different I am wearing them now. ”

Predicting what fashion will look like after the pandemic? Or at least how are you going to dress?

“I hope there is a lot more clothes to wear. And I hope there is less conformance with trends. I would like to start dressing a little ridiculously, a little over the top. I won’t waste time worrying about whether I am I am appropriately dressed for the occasion. ”

“This is an attempt to wear a coat with socks. I’ve always wanted to do it, but I usually wear tights. Tights wouldn’t work with this look, so it challenged me to do just that. This is a very loud one Composition what I like – loud, but also fitting and rounded off with my favorite neutral coat. I love the sweater skirt set and thought: “Why not combine it with a sock shoe set?” It made me smile.
