Flights briefly halted after unintentional gun discharge at Atlanta airport, three accidents reported

An accidental firing of a shot in the security control area of ​​the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Saturday afternoon resulted in all departing flights being temporarily halted.

The airport announced on Twitter that there was neither an active shooter nor a continuing threat to passengers or employees. Early reports suggest three people suffered non-life-threatening injuries following the incident, Atlanta police said.

“Officials have given the all-clear for #ATLAirport and normal operations are starting,” tweeted airport officials. Details of the incident were not disclosed.

The shot was fired during an airport security check, according to the latest TSA statement:

Various news outlets reported that witnesses said: Panic ensued after the shots in the airport’s domestic terminal. NBC partner WXIA of Atlanta reported that passengers got off planes to wait on the tarmac and around the terminals.

TSA officials discovered more than 450 firearms at Atlanta Airport checkpoints in 2021, officials said. So far this year, almost 4,500 firearms have been discovered at airport controls.

Alec Baldwin fires prop gun on film set, killing crew member

Actor Alec Baldwin fired a prop gun at a film set on Thursday, killing the film’s cameraman and injuring its director, police said

Halyna Hutchins, 42, was killed on the set of Rust, a western filmed at Bonanza Creek Ranch in Sante Fe, New Mexico, and Joel Souza, 48, was injured, including the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office communicated.

Hutchins was helicoptered to the University of New Mexico Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Souza was taken to the Christ St. Vincent Regional Medical Center for treatment for his injuries.

The circumstances of the shooting are being investigated. No charges were brought.

“Tonight we received the devastating news that one of our members, Halyna Hutchins, director of photography for a production called ‘Rust’ in New Mexico, died of injuries sustained on set,” said John Lindley, president of International Cinematographers Guild and Rebecca Rhine, the managing director, in a statement on diversity.

“The details are currently unclear, but we are working to find out more and we support a full investigation into this tragic event,” the statement said. “This is a terrible loss and we mourn a member of our guild family.”

Hutchins graduated from the American Film Institute in 2015. She was involved in several short films before working on Archenemy, a 2020 feature film starring Joe Manganiello.

Born in Ukraine, she has a degree in international journalism from Kyiv National University and previously worked as an investigative journalist for British documentary productions in Europe.

In 2019 she was selected as one of the American Cinematographer’s Emerging Stars.

Hutchin’s death commemorates actor Brandon Lee, son of martial arts film legend Bruce Lee. Brandon Lee died after being shot by a prop gun while filming The Crow in 1993.

“There was an accident on the New Mexico set of Rust today that involved the misfiring of a prop gun with blanks,” a Baldwin spokesman said in a statement to NBC News. “Production has been suspended for the time being. The safety of our actors and crew remains our top priority.”

Baldwin, 63, co-produces Rust and plays the infamous outlaw Harland Rust, whose 13-year-old grandson was convicted of accidental murder. Rust travels to Kansas to free his grandson from prison, and the two fugitives must escape US Marshal Wood Helm and bounty hunter Fenton “Preacher” Lang.

Baldwin posted a photo of himself in costume for the film on Instagram early Thursday, complete with fake blood on his shirt.

Most recently known as President Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live and starring in the NBC comedy 30 Rock, Baldwin has won multiple Emmy and Golden Globe awards and was nominated for an Oscar and a Tony Award.

Baldwin has hosted “SNL” 17 times, more than any other person, and has starred in such films as “The Departed”, “Glengarry Glen Ross” and the Mission Impossible franchise. He was also the producer of director Souza’s film “Crown Vic”.

Baldwin has lost his temper in the past, including incidents that led to his arrest. In 2019, he pleaded guilty to molesting another person in connection with a parking lot dispute in Manhattan in November 2018.

He was previously arrested by the police for ridden his bike incorrectly and for misconduct after allegedly quarreling with the police who stopped him.

Baldwin was also acquitted of battery crimes charges after he was accused of beating a freelance photographer and breaking the lens man’s nose in 1995 in California.

The actor is married to Hilaria Baldwin and has six children together. He also has a daughter named Ireland from his previous marriage to actress Kim Basinger.

Portland man arrested for pointing AR-15 fashion airsoft gun

Mark Lee, 23, has been arrested three times for threats and once for second-degree misconduct.

PORTLAND, Ore. – The man who was seen in multiple viral videos Strolling downtown Portland with a rifle-style airsoft pistol was charged with triple threatening and second-degree disorderly behavior, the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) said in a press release.

According to PPB, Mark A. Lee, 23, of Portland called the police on August 8, 2021 when several people followed him as he walked the streets of downtown Portland with an AR-15 rifle. He was wearing a military-style tactical vest and had half his face hidden under a mask as he aimed a rifle at the people who followed him. He was ordered by the police to continue walking to the central station. PPB said officials there confirmed that his rifle was not a real firearm but an airsoft pistol.

NRT spoke to witnesses and identified a victim. On August 12, NRT went to Lee’s house and arrested him. They confiscated his shirt, vest, gas mask, airsoft pistol and seven knives.

State cash earmarked for ‘boots on the bottom’ efforts to curb Buffalo gun violence

BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) – Four Buffalo state lawmakers are pouring more money onto the streets of Queen City to curb violence. On Tuesday, Senators Tim Kennedy and Sean Ryan and Reps Crystal Peoples-Stokes and Jon Rivera announced that $ 200,000 raised during the state budget process has been allocated to Buffalo Peacemakers and the Stop the Violence Coalition.

“This money will go a long way in helping the peacemakers and stopping the violence to create just that: peace,” said Senator Kennedy.

Peace is urgently needed. According to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, there were 49 homicides in Buffalo as of Tuesday, 2021. With that, the city is on track to hit a record 94 murders from 1994.

Pastor James Giles, who heads Back to Basics Ministries, said the state money would be used to hire people to provide local community involvement.

“We’re not looking for administrative stuff. We have administrative help, ”said Giles. “We’re looking for boots on the ground.”

Meanwhile, James P. Kennedy, the US attorney for the Western District of New York, is preparing to meet with staff from the Stop the Violence Coalition and Back to Basics on Wednesday to discuss efforts to reduce gun violence. Kennedy has already announced the creation of a task force to aim to reduce violence through more targeted enforcement and state law enforcement.

US Attorney Kennedy says it is critical that the community understand the goal.

“We target members of the community for their behavior and these extreme acts of violence,” Kennedy said. “There’s a reason law enforcement can focus there because that’s where the violence takes place.”
