Elon Musk pledges $50 million to Inspiration4 fundraiser for St. Jude

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk helped meet the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s Inspiration4 spaceflight fundraising goal just hours after his company brought the crew back from orbit.

The main goal of the Inspiration4 mission, which started on Wednesday and came down on Saturday, should raise $ 200 million for St. Jude.

Inspiration4 Commander Jared Isaacman, a billionaire entrepreneur who bought the flight from SpaceX, personally donated $ 100 million to St. Jude. The Inspiration4 mission raised an additional $ 60.2 million in donations before Musk pledged to contribute $ 50 million of his own – bringing the campaign total to more than $ 210 million.

“Count me in for $ 50 million,” Musk said in a tweet on Saturday.

Good Life Metropolis raises more cash for Nigel Brown’s household at motorbike fundraiser

ALBANY, Georgia (WALB) – The Good Life City raised more money for Nigel Brown’s family Sunday with a motorcycle ride fundraiser.

Over 200 people were present.

OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) – On June 24, 39-year-old Ben Fritz received the diagnosis no one wants to hear.

“Ben went to the emergency room, his back hurt and after several tests and blood tests he found that he had stage four colon cancer that spread to his lungs and liver,” said his sister Liza Fritz.

Now the Ocala community has come together and run several fundraising drives, including this one at Charlie Horse. Where there was live music, cornhole and raffles.

Charlie Horse co-owner Chris Welch said it was great to have the community come together.

“To be honest, it’s really inspiring that we have so many donations and so many good things to give away that it is really good for you when a community supports a bad event.”

And everyone is hoping for the best.

“By and large, we all try to take it day after day and pray and wish the best and hope that it gets stronger and hits this thing,” Liza Fritz said.

Ben has already started chemotherapy, and the family says they will run more fundraisers in the future to help pay some of his medical bills.

27th annual Casas For CASA Fundraiser to boost cash for teenagers in want

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Tickets for the 27th annual Casas for CASA fundraiser in the Spielhaus are now available.

The event raises awareness and raises funds to support CASA advocating for abused children in Baton Rouge.

The fundraiser begins with CASA’s Magnolia Mansion 2021 playhouse on display at the East Baton Rouge Parish Library on Goodwood Blvd from June 1st to July 25th. Tickets for the raffle cost USD 5 each and are available online at casabr.org.


The playhouse was designed by Lilliput Play Homes and assembled by local contractors, Faulk and Meek General Contractors.

This year there will only be one silent auction online.


Guests can register and shop online from July 12th to July 25th.


Casas for CASA will conclude with a virtual CASA Fiesta on Sunday, July 25th, where guests can watch the event online while enjoying takeaway tacos from the Superior Grill (Highland Road only) at home. Tickets for takeaway tacos can be purchased online for $ 50, and guests can enjoy a wine tasting when they pick up their takeaway food if they choose.


All proceeds go to the Capital Area CASA Association, a nonprofit that recruits, trains, and oversees volunteers who work for abused and neglected children in need of safe, permanent homes.

The fundraiser enables Capital Area CASA to continue helping every child in the East Baton Rouge community in need of a voice.

Leisure-filled Outside Fest replaces conventional banquet as Viking Sportsmen’s huge fundraiser

In place of the traditional banquet that has been going on for more than 30 years, the last Saturday in July at the Alexandria Shooting Park, the Viking Sportsmen are offering a variety of ticket packages to attend their very first outdoor festival. It’s a day of fun for people in the outdoors, and the idea came from the Viking athletes who had to cancel their annual banquet due to the 2020 pandemic.

Questions remained in the 2021 banquet season, which for outdoor organizations usually takes place in spring. Could the Viking athletes hold an indoor banquet while the pandemic continues? If so, with what capacity?

“At one point during the talks, I believe we were limited to less than 100 people, and in a typical year the banquet takes about 300 people,” said Chris Kleine, president of Viking Sportsmen. “It started as an idea when some of us were standing around after one of our board meetings. It definitely wasn’t broken, but after 35 years of banquet it was time to check out something else. We take a leap of faith and commit to thinking outside the box and putting together an event that can attract 3-4 times or more than our traditional audience, which equates to extra dollars and a much greater impact in our local communities. ”

Ticket package costs range from $ 20 for a single entry ticket to a platinum package of $ 1,000 (valued at $ 1,500) for a group of 10 people. There are several options between these prices for individuals or groups.

The money from this event will go towards projects such as the annual Youth Outdoor Activity Day (which is scheduled for August 29th this year), wild fodder plots (over 100 acres planted in 2020), pikeperch, brown and rainbow trout stocking programs and financial Support will be used for archery, traps, and fishing teams of the 206 District, along with the local Let’s Go Fishing chapter, which helps seniors get outdoors through fishing and sightseeing tours of the lakes in the area.

Outdoor Fest offers a full day of activities. It starts at 10 a.m. when the gates open. A trap shooting tournament starts at 11:00 AM. There are food stalls, a bar (Depot Express and Carlos Creek Winery), 3D archery, and raffles with over 30 weapons and other prizes.

The afternoon includes a beanbag tournament, live entertainment, a general raffle and a silent auction. Live music by the band Coyote Wild plays from 7-10 p.m.

Kleine said the committee had discussed at length how the event would be carried out with shooting sports and liquor in the park.

“We follow instructions from Tom (Townsend), the owner of Alexandria Shooting Park,” said Kleine. “He said: ‘We have already been served alcohol at events like this, and there is a zero tolerance policy.’ If you consume alcohol, do not take part in the (shooting) events. This also included scheduling. The trap tournament starts at 11 a.m. The food stalls, the bar, they don’t open until noon. That was the idea of ​​getting it going in the morning so that people don’t sit around until 3 or 4 in the afternoon. ”

Hosting such an event as the primary fundraiser for the year took a lot of work and taking some risk with the amount of money the group invested in the day. Kleine said Alomere Health and Bell Bank both came to Viking Sportsmen to help sponsor the event.

The board members of the Viking Sportsmen hope that the Outdoor Fest will be well attended and that the group will continue to serve the community in the future. Kleine said they haven’t seen a large number of ticket sales yet, but he hopes that will change in the past few weeks as the group marketed the outdoor festival in more avenues.

“We have devoted significant resources to making sure we are putting together a good product,” said Kleine. “Our committee members are in rags, have reached out to the vendors, made sure we have entertainment and a stage, organized trap and beanbag tournaments, and procured rubbish and toilet bins.

“All of this is happening as we also prepare for Youth Outdoor Activity Day less than a month later, which draws around 4,000 people to the same place. We would be very happy to continue this event and hope that it will be a success and grow from year to year. We have received a lot of positive feedback from people who are burned out through traditional fundraising mechanisms. Now is the time to see what kind of reaction we get. “

‘Assassins in Want’ Fundraiser Elevating Cash for Psychological Well being

Several Assassin’s Creed communities and content creators come together to raise funds for the World Federation for Mental Health.

Several video games were released in 2020, such as Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, but far more have been delayed or pushed out of their release windows. New Iberia won’t see its annual Spanish festival this year, but followers of the region’s rich Spanish heritage got the chance to celebrate Saturday at the Spanish gala hosted by La Asociación Española de Nueva Iberia.

The gala, which is the club and festival’s main fundraiser for the events they host throughout the year, was held at the Sliman Theater and was full of local supporters, cooks and visiting kings.

“It was good, very busy,” said Association Vice President Brinkley Lopez at the event. “We had less than a couple of months to organize this so it was very interesting.”

The gala included a live and silent auction, seafood from local chefs, and musical entertainment. Usually the gala includes flamenco dancers entertaining the audience for the fundraiser, but due to COVID-19 and travel restrictions, Lopez said it was not feasible this year.

“We had a little challenge to find entertainment this year,” she said. “We usually have flamenco dancers, but because of COVID and travel, that couldn’t happen.

Instead, Lopez said the club invited New Iberia singer Keely Brennan to perform.

“We have Keely who we’re really looking forward to. She just recorded her first single and we are happy to have it, ”she said.

The Asociación Española de Nueva Iberia is a New Iberia organization established to preserve New Iberia’s Spanish heritage. She is also responsible for running the Spanish Festival of New Iberia or the El Festival Español de Nueva Iberia.
