James Blake – Pals That Break Your Coronary heart album evaluate: Refining his model

Review at a glance

C.

considering he’s a singer who normally does Choirs of angels sound like they have to try a little harder, it’s surprising that the only ones grammy At James Blake‘s Regal is so far for the best rap performance. That was for his contribution to King’s Dead, a song from the Black Panther soundtrack that also featured Kendrick Lamar, Future and Jay Rock – just one example of the LA-based Londoner becoming one of them Hip hop‘s most sought-after employee.

On his fifth solo album, although the preamble suggests it is his happiest work to date, he still sheds tears, far from the dance floor. He is blissfully loved via alien blips on I’m So Blessed You’re Mine. Foot Forward sounds relatively straightforward to him, the loss of a friendship towards rolling piano chords is optimistic. But when I’m unsure, he’s back on familiar ground, wondering, “When I’m so happy / How do I lose all this sleep?” over the slightest whiff of synthesizer.

Unlike its predecessor, Assume Form, it has stayed away from the most famous names. The biggest guest is acclaimed R&B singer SZA on Coming Back, who maintains a pretty melody even though it sounds like several songs put together. The rappers JID and SwaVay offer a greater contrast on Frozen, quiet and growling and nervous and hyperactive.

As always, Blake experiments with his own voice and starts Say What You Will with a deep croak. The whole thing is a refinement of his style, but not a big leap.

three faculty mates constructed a $1 billion enterprise promoting used vehicles

Aaron Tan is on the way.

As a co-founder of a newly crowned unicorn and one of the Asia-Pacific fastest growing startups, the Carro CEO is now on the way to being listed on the stock exchange.

And with investors like Softbank coming on board, he has no plans to slow down.

“The question is, now that we’re down to $ 1 billion, how do we get to $ 10 billion? How do we get to $ 100 billion?” Tan told CNBC Make It.

I wouldn’t say I got my co-founders to start the company together …

Aaron Tan

Co-Founder and CEO, Carro

automobile – a play on the words “Autoheld” – is a Southeast Asian online car marketplace that was developed to simplify auto business with artificial intelligence.

Founded in 2015 by Tan and his college friends Aditya Lesmana and Kelvin Chng, it achieved the coveted $ 1 billion unicorn status in June after securing $ 360 million in funding. The deal brings the total capital to over half a billion dollars and brings Carro alongside major competitors such as Carsome from Malaysia and Germany Carmudi, in an industry that is worth it $ 50 billion, and the number is rising.

But as Tan explained, it was a journey there.

Driven to success

The 36-year-old’s entrepreneurial story began at the age of 13. As a teenager growing up in Singapore, the geek made extra money building and selling websites.

Later, however, while working as a venture capitalist in the United States, he saw the opportunity to combine entrepreneurship with his true passion: trading automobiles.

Aaron Tan, Co-Founder and CEO of Southeast Asian auto marketplace Carro.

automobile

“When I was a VC in the USA for many years, I remember very well, I met all kinds of automotive companies – your Beepi, your Uber, your DriveShift. What that showed me was the dynamics in the room, ”said Tan.

While the auto resale market was thriving in the US, it was not in Southeast Asia. It was known to be opaque as multiple middlemen made it difficult for buyers and sellers to get the best deals.

What we saw was the changing behavior of car ownership.

Aaron Tan

Co-Founder and CEO, Carro

Tan wanted to change that. When he returned to Singapore in 2015, he teamed up with his classmates from the Carnegie Mellon School of Computer Science to come up with an algorithm that would do just that.

“I wouldn’t say I got my co-founders to jointly start the company, but I think I sold the opportunity that this could be a lot more interesting than anything they did,” Tan said.

Enter a fast-moving market

The trio was on to something. In a region with a large and growing, digitally savvy middle class, price-conscious consumers are increasingly opting for used models.

“The growing middle class combined with low car ownership rates in Southeast Asia were really the main factors stimulating new car sales and this ultimately resulted in a buoyant used car market,” Justinas Liuima, senior research consultant at Euromonitor, told CNBC Do It.

Carro car marketplace launched Singapore’s first car subscription service in 2019.

CNBC

Carro took advantage of this demand and in the following years launched its online offer for private individuals and wholesalers in Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia. In the meantime, end-to-end financial services like lending, insurance, and aftercare have been added.

By 2019, inspired by streaming giants Netflix and Spotify, the company launched Singapore’s first car subscription service that allows users to lease a vehicle for a monthly fee, including taxes, warranty and maintenance.

“What we saw was the changing behavior of car ownership. The niche really was to find people who want that flexibility. And more importantly, they actually want to try new cars,” Tan said.

Navigating the pandemic

Then, in 2020, the pandemic struck. But what was a big hurdle for many start-ups turned out to be an opportunity for Tan and his team.

Concerns about hygiene and personal safety led to a new demand for private transportation. And with closed borders and a global scarcity of microchips restricting auto production, used car sales soared.

Covid has definitely contributed to accelerating our entire digitization internally and externally.

Aaron Tan

Co-Founder and CEO, Carro

“Covid has definitely helped to accelerate all of our digitization internally and externally for the general public,” said Tan.

The company’s various initiatives included a contactless “Showroom Anywhere” concept that enabled prospective buyers to view and test cars without direct human interaction. Instead, they could access the vehicle in a public parking lot by entering a contactless QR code.

From March 2021, Carro had sales of $ 300 million – 2.5 times higher than last year. The six-year-old start-up says it is now profitable.

The path to an IPO

However, this growth comes against the backdrop of increasing scrutiny of the auto industry.

Transportation makes up almost a quarter (24%) of the global CO2 emissions, of which 75% make up road vehicles. And even if governments and automakers make plans to abandon traditional internal combustion engine cars with electric vehicles, many existing gas guzzlers are simple exported to developing markets.

For his part, Carro said it played an important role in the transition to more environmentally friendly modes of transport.

Carro says it is helping the transition to greener modes of transportation by allowing buyers to test new cars such as electric vehicles.

automobile

“Our job is to enable this recycling or reuse of the vehicles in the shortest possible time. And the second part of it is that [electric vehicles are] a strong tailwind for us, because that promotes change. For a platform like us, we strive whenever the market changes, “said Tan.

Sustainability will be one of the many things on Tan’s agenda as he sets out to get his company public within the next 18 to 24 months. With regional expansion, AI developments and acquisitions, one thing is certain – it will be an eventful trip.

“Between now and then [we need to] Prepare the company, controls must be in place, people must be in place, compliance must be in place, “said Tan months from now.”

Ought to You Elevate Cash From Mates And Household For Your Startup?

Raising money from friends and family is complicated, but it might be the only way to raise funds … [+] for a while. Before taking the leap of faith, make sure you understand the implications

getty

You have an idea, you have confirmed it and you are confident that it has potential. However, to really test it you need to start building – you need a prototype or a Minimum Viable Product. Often times, this requires at least some capital investment in your startup project.

Most new businesses are funded by the founders – either from their savings or from corporate loans. For traditional businesses with predictable cash flows, bank loans are a great source of funding because they give you leverage – you don’t dilute your stake in the business and you can make more money in the long run.

However, when you’re starting a startup, financing your business with credit is far too risky. You have to return the loan whether your idea works or not, and unfortunately, given the very high failure rates of startups (over 90%), this is the more likely outcome.

For this reason, most startups are booted by the founders in the very early stages. However, if you don’t have enough savings to cover the cost of developing your first versions of the product, you’ll need to raise funds.

However, raising funds from angel investors and venture capital funds at this early stage is not a viable option. Nowadays, professional startup investors are more demanding and know that startups are way too risky in the idea phase. Investors typically want to see solid evidence that the company is on the right track to get the product market fit. In other words, investors want to see some traction before risking their money. However, in order to gain traction, you will need money to make the first version of your product – a catch-22.

If you don’t have enough money to meet your new business needs and banks and startup investors are not an option, then your last hope is friends or family. If you are lucky enough to have people in your life ready to support your business, this seems like a win-win situation. Needless to say, taking the hard earned money of your loved ones at risk is not an easy decision to make.

The very first pre-seed investment round is often jokingly referred to as the FFF round in the startup community – fools, friends and family. Fools, you would only invest in an early stage project like this if you did not understand the level of risk involved. The expected return on such investments can be negative on average.

However, it doesn’t necessarily mean that your friends and family are stupid. Such an investment is of greater value to them than to an outside investor, as these people are already personally invested in your life and success. From the point of view of the founding parents, for example, even if the expected return on the investment is negative, this could be justified as an expense for the personal growth and development of the founder – the experience of build a startup would be valuable from the ground up for the professional future of the founder, even if the project fails.

In addition, the real benefit is greater, as parents are concerned not only with their own return, but with their child’s ability to nourish themselves from something they love. If, for example, the startup idea is not scalable and does not become a unicorn but a lifestyle business, an angel investor or venture capital fund would write it off as a failed investment. However, parents would likely want to help their child start a small family business, even if their investment doesn’t result in a 10x return on their investment.

This is the ideal scenario. However, if the investors’ friends and family do not fully understand the implications of their decision to give you money for your project, losing their money can cost you relationships. This is a terrible situation – a failed startup is very tough for founders, but if it comes with damaged relationships, the emotional cost would be even higher.

Hence, you shouldn’t be afraid of making an early investment from friends and family. However, you need to make sure they aren’t fools too. You need to have a good understanding of the implications of your investment – the likelihood that the money will be lost. If your friends and family cannot afford to invest in your project, it is better not to take their money and look for other options.

Household and buddies increase cash for canine to assist liked one handle their diabetes

Diabetic Warning Dogs can see the level of insulin in a person’s bloodstream and warn them when it is too low or too high.

LENOIR CITY, Tenn. – Everyone needs someone to lean on. Sometimes people need a dog to lean on.

Lindsay Graham, a mother and former school teacher from Lenoir City, is surrounded by a wonderful support system of friends and family. She relies on them to help manage her diabetes after she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 16 years ago.

She said she still has trouble keeping her blood sugar levels in balance.

“I don’t think people without diabetes understand that you can consume what you want,” said Graham. “But then you have to take that amount of insulin to cover what you just ate. I’m learning.”

Graham’s mother, Cherie House, said the diagnosis was the family’s first case. She said that made it even more scary for close friends and family.

When Graham’s blood sugar drops at night, she has a hard time getting out of bed in the morning to normalize her insulin levels.

“Lindsay is one of my best friends,” said Anna Russell. “I call her every morning, text her, get her texted and make sure she is okay.”

Graham’s mother shared her friend’s concerns.

“I couldn’t sleep at night without worrying that someone would call in the morning and say she was gone,” House said.

To help everyone and keep Graham safe, her family came up with a solution to reduce their risk – a diabetic warning dog.

These dogs are specially trained to smell the levels of insulin in their blood.

“A dog has 10,000 times more sense of smell than a human, so it’s pretty amazing what he can do,” said House.

However, a diabetic warning dog can cost anywhere from $ 20,000 to $ 40,000. Although it would help regulate her blood sugar, Graham said she couldn’t afford one on her own.

“If you have a daughter who might die … it takes a village to raise a child. It doesn’t matter how old you are, it still takes a village, ”House said.

Graham’s family and friends held a community event to raise money for a service dog. Graham is currently in a bonding phase with a brown poodle named “Bentley”.

He was at the event, by her side.

“That dog changed our lives completely,” said House.

If you’d like to help Graham raise money for her service dog, you can do so on New Hope Dogs website. You can select the recipient as Lindsay Graham.

Jewelry ideas from F.R.I.E.N.D.S: Tendencies that by no means exit of fashion

The iconic 90s show “FRIENDS” recently caused a sensation when its glittering cast performed at a “reunion” event. The special episode frenzied the audience and once again showed how friends are with you forever in good, bad and ugly times! It also highlighted the timeless class and relevance of the ladies’ jewelry on the show. Let’s take a look at the jewelry choices of the most stylish TV characters of the 1990s and how Rachel, Monica, and Phoebe jewelry can still rock any outfit and occasion! We contacted Deepshikha Gupta, Senior VP – Design, Melorra, and asked her to list jewelry ideas inspired by Friends.

Rachel Green aka Jen An

There is no doubt that Jennifer Aniston completely rocked the show with her impeccable style that captured the hearts of millions at the time. She’s still making a splash after all these years, and with her strong personality and fashion sense, Rachel is ambitious for all girls. She completely dominated the screen in her formal attire. Her stunningly beautiful appearance was perfectly complemented by a long, minimalist chain necklace set with asymmetrical stones. Whether a long black dress or simple pant suits that a working fashionista would wear, she adorned them all with trendy but simple pendants that grabbed just the right amount of attention.

Every time her neckline was visible, for example, it was invariably accompanied by a perfect, subtle bling. It can be a red pearl necklace with a tiny crystal pendant and matching earrings or a dangling charms pendant with a figure-hugging sweater – it looks absolutely stylish even in a simple outfit.

There is no doubt that Rachel’s style was perfectly accentuated by her jewelry. It could even make a crystal pendant thread chain on a halter denim top or a pendant on dungarees look exotic. If you ever want a look that is simply stylish, let her inspire you.

Phoebe Buffay

While Rachel stole the limelight with her subtle and fine jewelry, Phoebe Buffay created her own storm by opting for a statement look with her jewelry and accessories. She broke every convention with style and showed how to be adventurous and creative. Phoebe not only made people the ROFL, but made a trendy statement with her unusual layerings and accessories every time Phoebe appeared on screen. She also opted for brightly colored clothes with collars.

When it comes to rings, there is no one like Phoebe. She could literally wear multiple rings, which gave clues about stacking ideas. She was always very superstitious and even saw clairvoyants, which is why you could see so many different rings on her fingers. At the same time, Phoebe looked like a sober woman who could even give Rachel a run for its money when it came to transforming herself into a classy look. She could wear pearls and diamonds with equal ease!

Monica Geller

Monica Geller could easily be any young girl out there. Your obsession with cleaning fits in well with the post-pandemic times! Monica mastered the art of low key style with her minimalist necklaces and earrings that made her look stylish yet normal. The timeless clothing style of Monica is also suitable for casual clothing elements such as pullovers, sweatshirts, T-shirts and normal shirts, etc. Her simple, everyday style is equally good for housewives or working women of today.

Monica wore long lariat necklaces with her low-cut dresses that make her look chic and make a fashion statement. She really flaunted her collarbone to great effect. She could see herself wearing a pair of minimalist pearl earrings and an elegant pearl necklace that make her style relatable, down to earth, and extremely practical for everyday lifestyle.

All three leading women from FRIENDS embody minimalist jewelry styling with their necklaces, simple chains, pendants, ear studs and wristwatches. At the same time you could see them with statement necklaces and asymmetrical designs that are just as adorable in 2021 as they were in 1999. What makes it really amazing is that the leading makers of the time are familiar with the timelessness and relevance of FRIENDS jewelry in our time. If you browse leading online jewelry portals known for minimalist design and style statement jewelry for working women, you will easily find an extensive range of options! Go ahead and bling in a friendly style!

Cash for ‘charudie’: Calera mates increase greater than $2K for Tallapoosa County Ladies Ranch – Shelby County Reporter

From ALEC ETHEREDGE | Editor-in-chief

CALERA – Maggie Marling sat bored in the Timberline neighborhood of Calera on a typical summer day, sprinted to her father in her house and started yelling the best idea she ever had.

“Papa, papa, I want to open a lemonade stand,” she said ecstatically to her papa, who was trying to balance a business conversation in one ear and asking Maggie what she needed in the other. “Where can I get lemons? Where can I get cups? “

Her father George put the phone down for a brief second and told her to come up with a business plan.

“He said, ‘Look, you can’t do this without a plan. You have to create a business plan for me beforehand and bring it to me, then I’ll answer your questions, ‘”Maggie’s mom Brandi remembers. “I think George thought it would only keep her occupied for a few minutes, but it got to be a couple of days.”

The business plan

At the time, George didn’t know how seriously Maggie would take his advice to create a business plan, but she was determined to change someone’s life with her lemonade stand.

What started with an idea her father got on a business call turned into a 20-page business plan drawn in crayons and crayons.

“I went and got some crayons and pencils and all that,” Maggie recalls. “I entered all the details there, what the stand should look like, what I needed for the stand, whom I wanted to help myself and a list of charities.”

One of the pages highlighting what the sign on the booth should look like said “$ 2 fresh lemonade for Charudie”.

According to Brandi, the business plan had several ideas on how to help various ends and included her friend Jamison Garzarek.

“When they heard about the accident with the Tallapoosa County Girls Ranch and all the children who had lost their lives, the girls got to know the ranch and knew this was the charity they wanted to help,” Brandi said.

So the two friends set about creating the best lemonade stand with their business plan.

Thanks to the help of the community, they got all the materials they needed and set up the stand from June 25th to 26th.

When life gives you lemons, you open a lemonade stand for charity

The next step in the business plan was trying to figure out how to get people to come to their lemonade stand by the Timberline pool, tucked away from the main drag. This became the easiest part of the plan, however, when the girls announced on Facebook that they wanted to raise funds for the Tallapoosa County Girls Ranch.

The ranch’s heart was torn on Saturday, June 19, when eight ranch children died after the bus that brought them home from a beach excursion was part of a tragic pile-up on Interstate 65.

A total of 10 people who were involved in the wreck died, including a father and his 9-month-old daughter in a car and the eight ranch girls on their bus.

Tallapoosa Girls Ranch is one of four across the state established by sheriff departments to help children in need. Some have often been abandoned by their parents or are growing up in broken homes, but the ranch takes them in to create a Christian family atmosphere that offers them the best opportunities in life.

This particular group, who grew up during a difficult childhood, were allowed to enjoy a trip to the beach but were killed on the way home in an accident started by car hydroplaning.

“I lost my mother in a car accident when I was 10,” said Jamison’s mother, Erin. “When you know that this is her age, it’s so difficult to explain that everything can be gone at such a moment. Explaining to my daughter that no one could say goodbye, it was just a total tragedy. It meant a lot to me that the girls wanted to help people who were hurt by what I went through in such a situation. “

Maggie and Jamison also took it to heart. None of them complained or asked their parents for help on the way.

While other friends were playing in the pool right next to them, the two girls never asked to leave the lemonade stand to go for a swim. Instead, they stayed true to the cause.

A special occasion

During the heat of the day, Maggie and Jamison hand squeezed over 50 lemons, mixed them with water, sugar, and ice, and served nearly 70 cups a day.

“It’s hard for our two children, who have both parents and are so blessed that it’s hard to convey the value of their property to them without seeing what others don’t,” said Erin. “It doesn’t make materialistic stuff seem that important. They knew where this money was going and never asked for our help.

It meant a lot to parents to see that our children had an idea that they knew their only benefit would be to help others. They never complained or asked once to go or do anything else. You rarely see that, especially with 8-year-olds. “

The hard work paid off as the girls raised a total of $ 2,800 through soda sales and donations over two days.

“When we heard about the tragedy, we just wanted to help, but we didn’t expect it,” said Jamison.

Maggie said she was afraid no one would show up and she wasn’t expecting more than 20 customers.

“The number just got higher,” she says. “I was shocked. It was so much fun.”

Not only will the money be brought to Girls Ranch by the girls and their families, but they will also raise more money later this week on Calera’s First Friday and hope to do the same for other charities soon.

“When kids go to Walmart or Target they say, ‘What can I get, what can I get?’ But none of us really remember those $ 5 toys, ”said Erin. “However, we remember experiences in life, we remember what we do for others and what they do for us.”

And this experience is one that both Maggie and Jamison said they will never forget while hoping this is just the beginning of helping others.

Parents were also grateful to the Calera Ward for their assistance in helping Tallapoosa County Girls Ranch through a tragic time.

What started with a daughter yelling an idea at her father during a phone call grew into a powerful business helping a group of people when they needed it most.

“We just want them to know we love them and know it’s hard, but we want to help them know that we are here to help them,” Maggie said.

David Schwimmer worked on television before joining Friends.

The 54-year-old actor played Ross Geller in a world hit comedy that focused on six close friends who lived in New York from 1994 to 2004, but his ideas were turned down. I admitted that I was very sick of it. Greg Richardson no longer wants to do a sitcom on the short-lived “Monty” series from 1994, starring Harry Winkler.

He said on the “How I found my voice” podcast: [Winkler] It was great, but … the writers didn’t accept my idea.

“I basically felt like I was being told, ‘say the lines and do as you were told’ … and when the show was canceled after filming episode 12, I was very relieved.”

But when he was offered to join Friends he felt more “cooperative” so he agreed.

Schwimmer recently shattered hopes for future “Friends” episodes.

Fans recently hooked up with five major co-stars, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, and Matt LeBlanc, and their experiences on the show on Friends: The Reunion TV special. The fans were overjoyed when they talked about it.

Schwimmer appreciates the call for more episodes, while he and his teammates as well as creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman leave the show untouched as the characters are at different stages of life. Insisted that he agree it was better.

He said, “The makers of the show have the same idea as we do. That said, they loved how to end.

“The whole show was about the time in the life of these characters when your friends were in your family. At our age, many have families of their own. [recreate] It. “

However, the comedy star soon referred to the reunion special as an “emotional” experience, adding that he particularly enjoyed spending time with his co-stars on the show’s original set.

Before playing Ross on television at the age of 27, Schwimmer had a variety of jobs, including serving cookie dough at waiters and ice cream parlors. The tournament is over.

The “Iceman” star, however, is “grateful” for having had such an experience as a fighting actor.

He said, “I am grateful that I knew who I was and that I had the perspective that I was really working. It helped me to navigate in very difficult waters. “
