Fall fashion: Prepping the Belgians for the county honest | Heraldrepublican

When the DeKalb County Free Fall Fair takes place this week, hundreds of people will tour the Draft Horse Barn to marvel at these “gentle giants” who once fueled the agricultural industry.

These horses, which are twice the size of a riding horse, are pretty impressive up close.

What most visitors don’t see is the work of the exhibition exhibitors to bring the animals to the fair. The days before the fair are busy for our family as we prepare our Belgian draft horses for the show ring.

Budding Belgians will have six horses in the draft horse stable: our mare: Lillie and her foal Tulip Moana; and four geldings, Dan, Chip, Dale and Wally. Tulip was born on May 31st and will stand in a box with her mother. She will be a popular place to go for petting children and adults.

Belgians have already gone to the blacksmith for their pedicures. Your hooves are trimmed, shaped, and filed smooth (think of a giant fingernail file) to make the best impression on the judge. Our horses are trimmed roughly every six to eight weeks, year round, to keep their feet safe and sound.

Every Belgian gets a bath today, the day of the fair check-in, and the mane and tail are deburred and combed. Washing a Belgian is like washing a pickup truck – the whole family lends a hand to prepare each horse for the ride into town.

The whole family will also lend a hand during the week of the fair. My husband Lowell, son Jeremy, daughter Dawn and son-in-law Kerry Yingling are all responsible for showing the horses in the show ring. I’m the chief operations officer, cleaning the harness, packing supplies for the cleaning tray and making sure my two-step ladder is at hand to comb the mane on the heads of the Belgians. We all ensure that the stands are clean for our trade fair visitors all week long.

For a number of years we had the help of 4-H members who signed up for the draft horse project through the Doubletree 4-H Club. The draft horse project is the only animal project where the 4-H member does not have to own the animal. In DeKalb County, 4-H members who do not own a draft horse are matched with a member of the DeKalb County Horsemen’s Association to “borrow” a horse for the graduation show and learn from the adult volunteers.

Here are some photos from our trade fair experience in recent years. See you at the fair!

Fourth Avenue Winter Road Honest in jeopardy if cash isn’t raised

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) – The Fourth Avenue Merchants Association needs community help to make this year’s Winter Street Festival a reality.

The association is dependent on the street festival for its operation, but the last three trade fairs have been canceled due to the pandemic.

“Since we are 99% funded by the street festival, the failure to continue the street festival could definitely lead to the demise of the Fourth Avenue Merchants Association and everything we do to help small businesses down here,” said Daniel Matlick, board president of the Trade Association Fourth Avenue.

Every year the fair attracts hundreds of thousands of people and brings in hundreds of thousands of dollars. Matlick said the street fair money will be used to pay the upfront costs of the event and the rest will be used for upkeep along Fourth Avenue.

“We’re able to maintain the streets, the garbage, the power washing, and make Fourth Avenue a place people want to go,” said Casey Anderson, chief operating officer of the Fourth Avenue Merchants Association.

The street festival is also a big money maker for the traders, restaurants and artists involved.

“We have a tent out there and the store is open too,” said Tonia Clevenger, an employee at Rustic Candle on Fourth Avenue. “It’s just great fun and very busy.”

Clevenger hopes the tradition will return this year in the interests of businesses and those who love Fourth Avenue.

“A lot of people describe the avenue as the heart of Tucson,” she said. “It’s the eclectic feeling that brings Tucson together.”

Marlick said the club is working on reserve funds and will need to raise about $ 280,000 to hold the Winter Street Festival, which is scheduled for December 10th, 11th and 12th. Find out more about the fair and how you can donate. here.

Estimating The Truthful Worth Of Ten Leisure Group plc (LON:TEG)

Today we are going to provide a method of estimating the intrinsic value of Ten Entertainment Group plc (LON: TEG) by discounting the expected future cash flows to their present value. One way to achieve this is to use the discounted cash flow (DCF) model. Believe it or not, it’s not too difficult to follow as you will see from our example!

We point out that there are many ways to evaluate a company and that each method such as DCF has advantages and disadvantages in certain scenarios. If you want to learn more about the intrinsic value, you should get the Simply Wall St analytical model.

Check out our latest analysis for Ten Entertainment Group

Is the Ten Entertainment Group rated fairly?

We use the 2-step growth model, which simply means that we consider two phases of growth for the company. In the initial phase the company can show a higher growth rate and in the second phase a stable growth rate is normally assumed. In the first phase, we need to estimate the cash flows for the business over the next ten years. We use analyst estimates whenever possible, but when these are not available we extrapolate the previous free cash flow (FCF) from the most recent estimate or reported value. We assume that companies with falling free cash flow will slow their rate of contraction and that companies with increasing free cash flow will slow their growth rate over this period. We do this to take into account that growth tends to slow down more in the first few years than in later years.

In general, we assume that a dollar today is more valuable than a dollar in the future, so we discount the value of these future cash flows to their estimated value in today’s dollars:

UK £ 6.7

UK £ 6.1

(“Est” = FCF growth rate, estimated by Simply Wall St)
Present value of 10-year cash flow (PVCF) = £ 75 million

The story goes on

After calculating the present value of future cash flows in the first 10 year period, we need to calculate the terminal value that takes into account all future cash flows beyond the first tier. The Gordon growth formula is used to calculate the terminal value using a future annual growth rate equal to the 5-year average of the 10-year government bond yield of 0.9%. We discount the terminal cash flows to today’s value using a cost of equity rate of 12%.

Final value (TV)= FCF2030 × (1 + g) ÷ (r – g) = UK £ 18m × (1 + 0.9%) ÷ (12% -0.9%) = UK £ 172m

Present value of the final value (PVTV)= TV / (1 + r) 10 = UK £ 172m ÷ (1 + 12%) 10 = UK £ 58m

The total value or equity value is then the sum of the present value of future cash flows which in this case is £ 133 million. To get the intrinsic value per share, we divide this by the total number of shares outstanding. Based on the current share price of 2.3 pounds sterling, the company appears at fair value at the time of writing. Ratings, however, are inaccurate instruments, much like a telescope – move a few degrees and land in a different galaxy. Keep this in mind.

The assumptions

The above calculation depends heavily on two assumptions. The first is the discount rate and the other is the cash flows. You don’t have to agree to these inputs, I recommend repeating the calculations yourself and playing with them. The DCF also does not take into account the possible cyclical nature of an industry or the future capital requirements of a company, so that it does not provide a complete picture of a company’s potential performance. Since we consider Ten Entertainment Group to be a potential shareholder, the cost of equity is used as the discount rate, rather than the cost of capital (or weighted average cost of capital, WACC) which accounts for debt. In this calculation we used 12% which is based on a leveraged beta of 2,000. Beta is a measure of the volatility of a stock compared to the overall market. We get our beta from the industry average beta of globally comparable companies with an imposed limit between 0.8 and 2.0, which is a reasonable range for stable business.

Looking ahead:

Assessment is only one side of the coin in terms of creating your investment thesis and ideally not the only analysis you research for a company. A foolproof valuation is not possible with a DCF model. Instead, the best use for a DCF model is to test certain assumptions and theories to see if they would lead to an under- or over-valuation of the company. If a company is growing differently, or if the cost of equity or the risk-free interest rate changes dramatically, the outcome may be very different. For Ten Entertainment Group, there are three key aspects that you should investigate further:

  1. Risks: You should be aware of this 1 warning sign for Ten Entertainment Group We uncovered before we even consider investing in the company.

Allegan County Truthful pronounces remaining leisure lineup

ALLEGAN – The Allegan County Fair has announced its final program of entertainment, including a host of musicians and ventriloquist Jeff Dunham.

The organization’s final announcement came last week, including Casting Crowns, Crowder and Phil Wickham on Thursday September 16, and Justin Moore, Michael Ray and Chase Bryant on Friday September 17.

More:3 Doors Down, Chayce Beckham is coming to the Allegan County Fair

More:Allegan, Ottawa County Fairs return with carnivals and events this summer

Tickets for the concerts will be available from Thursday, June 24th, at 10 a.m. allegancountyfair.com/events. cards are available for Jeff Dunham’s performance on Friday September 10th and 3 Doors Down with Chayce Beckham on Saturday September 11th.

The Allegan County Fair runs Friday through Saturday September 10-18.

The event, Allegan’s biggest celebration of the year, was canceled in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic.

“The fair will be completely open,” said Saree Miller, CEO of the fair this year’s plan. “We’re going back to everything; we’re going to have all of our events.”

A community event, a butterfly exhibition, allows visitors to feed butterflies with a nectar stick for free. There is also harness racing, food, exhibitions, livestock and the popular carnival of the fair.

Tickets for bike shows such as the tractor train, demolition derby and rodeo are available online. Admission to the fair is $ 7 for adults and $ 4 for children in grades 1-12. Younger children have free entry.

The fair will have reduced or free admission for certain groups – such as seniors and children – throughout the week.

Boulder County truthful open to the general public with out carnival, dwell leisure

The Boulder County Fair will return this summer with more shows and competitions, but it still won’t include the usual sweet treats or carnival rides on offer in the years leading up to the pandemic.

“As much as we’d like to turn it around and say, ‘The fair is on,’ it’s a bit more of a process to host such a major event,” said Melanie Bohren, CEO of Boulder County Fair. “It’s the largest event on Boulder County’s grounds. It takes time to put together the contracts for entertainers, rodeo and demolition derby. “

On Monday, Bohren presented current plans for this year’s trade fair as part of a virtual trade fair board meeting. The show will be held August 6-15 at the Boulder County Fairgrounds, 9595 Nelson Road, Longmont.

The 152nd Boulder County Fair will be open to the public this year and includes an exhibitor show for the youth members of the 4-H and the National FFA Organization, Bohren said.

“It’s a two-part thing,” she said. “It shows everything (teenagers) have worked on with their cattle, cake decorations, artwork, photography and all these different things, and that completes the requirements for their projects.”

Last year, only 10 people per event were allowed to attend each show in order to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Some events such as the horse tournament have been canceled due to capacity restrictions, said Bohren. This year there are no restrictions on families or friends who want to participate. For those who can’t make it, the events will also be streamed live on Facebook.

Bohren said the plan for the next year is to fully revamp the fair and offer the popular fairground food, carnival rides and more.

The Boulder County Fair Parade is still running this summer and is scheduled to begin on August 7th at 10 a.m. on Main Street in Longmont.

“We’re going to be part of it and really see it as a great way to get people to Main Street, to interact with companies that are down there and to get people excited that we’re still here. “Said drilling.

Boulder County’s Board of Commissioners attended the virtual meeting on Monday, thanking the exhibition committee for all of their work to keep the event going during the pandemic.

“I just appreciate the things you are doing, given these restrictions, and hopefully next year it will be back in full,” said County Commissioner Matt Jones.

April in Eigenregie veröffentlicht.

Die California Mid-State Fair 2021 findet vom 21. Juli bis 1. August statt und feiert dieses Jahr ihr 75-jähriges Bestehen.

Butterflies, agriculture recreation present to offer free leisure on the honest

There is magic in the air at this summer’s Montcalm County Fair, starting with two new free exhibits that offer visitors both entertainment and education.

Tim Balster, left, owner of the game show Wheels of Agriculture, takes the Trivia Tractor with him for a mini-show at a fair. The agriculture-themed interactive quiz game will be released for three days from June 24-26 at the Montcalm County Fair. – Submitted photo

Many fairs offer free entertainment, and Fair Board treasurer Lisa Johnson said she has started “going hard on the ground” to host at least one exhibition for 2020. Then the fair was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Meanwhile, Johnson himself was visiting a butterfly house and knew it would be something that would appeal to Montcalm County’s carnival goers.

“I thought that was really neat,” she said.

“You will be here all week and people can visit more than once. I just think it will be something for the kids. “

Johnson installed Butterfly Effects from Spring Hill, Florida for this year’s show. Owner Ted Moss will bring his House of Butterflies to the fairgrounds, where visitors can see butterflies that are native to Michigan in a screened display area.

There are more than 750 different species of butterflies in the United States, and each state has certain species that are native to that area, Moss said. He’s careful to bring “the right species to the right state” when traveling with his exhibit, he said. “Otherwise it can mess up the food chain and lots of different things in the area.”

So in Montcalm County, visitors can expect to see the Eastern Monarch Butterfly, the Painted Lady, and various fritillary butterflies up close. Everyone who enters is also given a nectar-coated food stick to encourage the butterflies to come closer to viewing and taking photos.

The exhibition also includes videos explaining the butterfly’s life cycle. There is one that shows how to fix a monarch wing.

“Children come with a smile on their faces. But it’s not just kids – teenagers, seniors, all ages love it, ”said Moss. “Everyone has fun with it. You’re having a great time. ”

Moss started his business a few years ago when he saw something similar at another fair. He liked the idea, mostly because he knew that butterflies, like bees, are pollinators. He thought he could have a business and at the same time help the environment by keeping the butterfly population growing, he said.

“Butterflies seemed like a nice idea. We can release them and that will help keep the species alive, ”Moss said. “You contribute so much to the world. If we don’t have it, we’ll get into serious trouble. ”

Moss also has a butterfly set for sale at the exhibit for around $ 5. The set includes two caterpillars, a monarch and a painted lady – these are the easiest to grow at home, he said – and a food cup.

“You can watch the pupa grow and then release the butterflies,” he said.

For more information, visit The Butterfly Effects on Facebook at @ butterflyfx.events.

Another new show attraction this year is Wheels of Agriculture, an interactive farming knowledge game show for the whole family. Johnson said she was particularly intrigued by the topic because while many people recognize the importance of the Ag to the community, “some aren’t sure what’s growing out there”.

“The quiz game is a way to educate people,” she added.

Game show participants and viewers win points and prizes by answering randomly selected questions about local and state agriculture, animals, plants and crops, food groups, farm and barns, music and other sounds.

The Wheels of Agriculture stage features three shows daily from June 24th to 26th. The Trivia Tractor, a similar but smaller walking game show, brings the fun to other corners of the exhibition grounds with two mini shows per day.

Owner Tim Balster, who brings the show from his western Chicago suburb, said he is preparing for all ages of game show players. In the three rounds behind the stand, questions are asked for kindergarten children through to third graders, then fourth graders through to high school students, and then there is “a wildcard”.

“Sometimes it’s all parents or one parent and one child. In the audience you never know what you’re going to get, ”he said. “Another way to include all ages is for us to have an audience spin. Even a boy who wouldn’t be comfortable answering questions can have fun spinning the wheel. “

If attendees cannot answer a question, the audience has the opportunity to intervene.

“If we get blank looks, we can give multiple choice. Even if that doesn’t help them get it right, at some point we’ll get the right answer, ”said Balster, adding that the show also has lucky components. “Even if you’re in last place, you’re lucky to win.”

With a lifelong interest in magic, Balster made money as a magician and illusionist after college, doing shows in restaurants, theaters, fairs, festivals, and other venues. He spent many years at the show with KidBucks, an interactive, energetic game show at shows. After all, instead of doing action seasons, Balster wanted to do something that was fun but also included education, and the wheels of agriculture were born.

“People just enjoy the fact that all ages can participate, whether they’re spinning the wheel, answering questions, or standing in the crowd,” he said.

Balster said he believed that the people of Montcalm County might know more about agriculture than he does. Sounds like a challenge.
