Leisure district within the works for downtown Enterprise

COMPANY, Ala. (WTVY) –

Downtown Enterprise could see big changes soon after the Enterprise City Council passed an ordinance making the area an entertainment district.

The aim of the Main Street program is to breathe new life into the inner cities.

Although the council is voting on the entertainment district ordinance, Main Street director Cassidi Kendrick says if they vote yes it would be a huge step forward to achieve that goal.

“It would allow you to buy a drink in a specific cup, and you could take it out and stroll downtown whether you were just shopping or enjoying one of our festivals or special events,” said Cassidi Kenrick, Main Street Enterprise Director .

The city is currently using an external provider to serve alcoholic beverages at events in the city center.

“We can actually take advantage of our businesses that have invested in downtown and take the extra step of getting the liquor and beverage license now instead of bringing in an outside source,” added Kendrick.

Kendrick expects the regulation, if passed, to be an incentive.

“It takes you a step forward in providing a different service to your customers that you may not be able to do elsewhere,” Kendrick continued. “So I definitely think this will bring some new business development to our region.”

The ordinance states that the district has no fewer than four retailers licensed to retail liquor, and with the structure of the district, that number will soon change.

“We also included the area on South Conner Street where the plant is located,” Kendrick concluded. “Where the old cotton mill used to be, the amusement district is currently being converted into an expansion with a catering and retail section to include a brewery.”

Current retailers who hold liquor licenses within the designated district include Corks and Cattle, the Rawls, Sixtels, and Café Roma.

According to the ordinance, the entertainment district is in operation on Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and on other days of the week except Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

The Council could vote on the new regulation at the next Council meeting on July 20th.

Esports Leisure Heart May Come To Downtown Orland Park

ORLAND PARK, IL – State-of-the-art entertainment theater could potentially hit the city after the revamped plans for the downtown Orland Park development, also known as “The Triangle,” were announced earlier this week.

The village hosted an open door event for residents of the Civic Center on Tuesday evening to discuss development ideas for the decade-long triangle project. The developers expect to create a pedestrian-friendly, mixed-use destination for all.

The triangle is west and northwest of the intersection of 143rd Street and LaGrange Road. The area is home to 143rd Street Metra Station, the University of Chicago Medical Center for Advanced Care, and Ninety7Fifty apartments on the Park. The property is a village-owned planning zone that is prepared for development.

On Tuesday, Ramzi Hassan, President of Edwards Realty Company, presented plans for restaurants, a park, additional parking and commercial space for the site. Features for different parcels include five- and six-story buildings that will house mixed-use settlements. The entertainment theater would be built on the current site of Crescent Park, east of Metra station.

Edwards Realty is a family run business based in Orland Park. The company owns the Orland Park Crossing Complex, just across from The Triangle.

“Since we’re in Orland Park, doing the retail rental business, finding tenants and promoting Orland Park all the time, it only made sense to want to be part of this location in some form,” said Hassan. “We always wanted to build on what we’re already doing in Orland.”

Hassan is that Vice President of the Orland Park Area Chamber of Commercewhich holds nearly 500 companies. The company’s president said he wanted to bring restaurants to the city that are not typical national brands.

“I know we don’t need many chain restaurants anymore,” said Hassan. “[We need] more of the local flair. We need a little specialized trade and gastronomy. ”

Esports – competitive video game tournaments played by professional gamers for the audience – was another hot topic at the open house meeting. Ken McGraw, CEO of Midnight Gaming Corp, an esports media company, said esports competitions could generate huge revenue at the proposed entertainment facility.

“What we’re trying to achieve here is the energy, the excitement, and the engine that is driving lots of eyeballs, lots of attention, and pedestrian traffic and dollars into this particular triangle,” said McGraw. “If you are familiar with the esports industry, you know that these things are achieved based on the activity within a given building.”

The building would be three stories and 96,000 square feet, McGraw said. There is a competition stage on one floor. The facility would also house game stations, concerts, a food court, retail stores, town hall meetings, and even a television production studio. It will be owned by Edwards Realty.

CW considers establishing downtown leisure district

Canal Winchester plans to expand its downtown entertainment and dining offering by creating a community entertainment district in an area around the intersection of Waterloo and High Street.

On June 21, Canal Winchester City Council heard the first reading of an ordinance setting boundaries within the historic district around the city center, giving the city yet another tool for economic development and business revitalization by increasing the number of available ones Gave liquor permits to hand.

The ordinance limits the district to no less than 20 acres and complies with the guidelines of the Ohio Revised Code. Similar neighborhoods were created by the city on Gender and Diley streets.

The document states: “… it is in the best interests of the city to establish a community entertainment district … to enhance and offer entertainment, retail, education, sports, culture and the arts.”

Lucas Haire, director of urban development, said the city is seeing a great deal of demand in Old Town for drink permits for restaurants interested in moving to the area. All permits are currently in possession and none are available for start-ups.

“If we open a new restaurant in the old town, there is (currently) no chance of a liquor permit,” said Haire. “Where liquor licenses can be issued, once they are issued, they stay in that area.”

According to a map attached to the legislation, the 30-acre district is roughly bordered by Columbus Street to the south, Oak Street to the north, Trine Street to the east, and along West Waterloo on the north side of the street near the level crossing .

Haire said with a ratio of one permit per five acres, the new entertainment district – which the council could change at any time – would allow six additional liquor licenses.

“The entertainment district will open up opportunities,” said Councilor Jill Amos, who agreed it was time for the city to create a DORA, which is a designated outdoor refreshment area – a specific area of ​​land that a local legislature will serve as excluded from certain open container regulations. “A lot of people are interested in (at a DORA) and that helps us.”

Councilor Mike Coolman said as the city grows, citizens are wondering why Canal Winchester cannot push certain restaurants to its limits.

Haire said if the entertainment district ordinance is approved, additional alcohol permits could be granted as early as September.

Downtown leisure district will likely be increasing

TEXARKANA, Texas – The city council unanimously voted on Monday to create a downtown entertainment district that allows open alcohol containers outside.

The measure amends the city’s alcoholic beverages ordinance and comes into effect on June 24, creating a continuous downtown entertainment district on both sides of the state border. Texarkana, Arkansas, founded its district in 2019. Officials hope the plan will boost downtown activity.

“I hope that it will ultimately lead to more downtown investments, more businesses, more restaurants and bars. And I hope that it will allow residents to enjoy themselves downtown and not have to worry about the Cross the state line, “said Lisa Thompson, city economics development specialist.

The move will provide residents “a seamless transition between downtown Arkansas and the Texas side, an opportunity to experience the downtown restaurants on both sides,” said interim city manager David Orr.

Purchase of land at the airport

The council unanimously approved a resolution authorizing the Texarkana Airport Authority to purchase 38 hectares of land adjacent to the Texarkana Regional Airport property. The Texarkana Arkansas board of directors must approve a meeting next week before the purchase can be made.

Together with the land the airport already owns, the purchase will result in a block of 120 hectares of land available for development, airport managing director Paul Mehrlich told the council.

“Our goal is to work together with the REDI group and use it to recruit air freight at the airport,” he said, referring to the regional business development organization AR-TX REDI.

Sidewalk Grant Applications

The council approved applications for grants from the Texas Department of Transportation to fund improvements to pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure.

The city will spend $ 1.8 million on sidewalks along Kennedy Lane and $ 800,000 on sidewalks along Leopard Lane from two different TxDOT funding programs, Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside (TASA) and Safe Routes to School -Infrastructure (SRTS), request.

No matching funding is required for SRTS grants, but TASA grants require a 20% grant, which the city would pay with a combination of in-kind and cash. Federal funding could cover gaming expenses.

Re-zoning, permits

The ordinance prohibits the use of glass containers for liquids on public roads, sidewalks or alleys and does not conflict with existing noise ordinances. The state alcohol law, including the need for permits to sell alcohol and the ban on open containers in vehicles, would remain in place.

If the ordinance is approved, city officials will consider the need for additional bins and garbage disposal.

Reside leisure returns to Downtown Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – It’s been 15 months since the cast and crew performed live on the Playhouse Square stage, but the show finally went on Friday night.

“We’ve been doing this for 10 years, it’s very special,” said Amy Scanlan.

“It’s good to come back to the theater and this is a great show tonight and we look forward to the music and dancing and maybe even a little beer inside,” said John Scanlan.

Also, Southwest General Hospital is COVID-free for the first time in 15 months. Cindy Reitz is a nurse in the intensive care unit there.

“I’ve been a season ticket holder for years,” says Reitz. “So devastated in 2020 that we couldn’t go to the theater and like I said, I’ve been an intensive care nurse for 37 years and I really needed something to look forward to. When this became available in March, I couldn’t wait to sign up. What a way to celebrate it with our tickets in Playhouse Square! “

The world premiere of “The Choir of Man” took place at the Mini Ohio Theater. It was one of the first Playhouse Square theaters to open 100 years ago after the last pandemic, and the happy audience couldn’t have been more excited to be part of the first opening night.

“It’s exciting to be there on the opening night of the very first show at the Playhouse,” said Joseph Petrak. “We miss our Playhouse family and look forward to seeing the boys perform for us tonight.”

On Friday evening the fans were again in the stands in the Progressive Field, this time without masks and without restrictions, an opening day 2.0!

“Just real baseball in the house, hot dogs, beer, a good time with your buddies,” said one Indian fan.

“The excitement alone, it’s a great stadium when there are a lot of people around it, very exciting, just the whole atmosphere,” said another fan.
