Disney will not attend CinemaCon in-person as delta variant rages in Las Vegas

Walt Disney Executives won’t be traveling to Las Vegas next month to attend the National Association of Theater Owners’ CinemaCon.

The company quoted growing concern about the Covid-19 Delta variant why it skips the annual meeting of cinema owners and Hollywood studios at Caesars Palace, according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter. Disney will be showing one of its upcoming films rather than giving a staged presentation.

The news comes almost a week later NATO has publicly condemned Disney’s day-and-date disclosure from “Black Widow”. It’s unclear if this was a factor in the studio’s decision.

Disney representatives were not immediately available for comment.

For a decade, CinemaCon has been a top-class event for studios, theater owners and the media to meet, network and exchange upcoming content and cinema innovations. However, the pandemic sidelined last year’s conference and could still affect this year’s event.

As of Friday, the other major studios are continuing their efforts to host personal presentations, although fewer stars are expected to be present during the four-day convention.

While NATO requires attendees to provide evidence of vaccination or a negative Covid test within 48 hours of the event, many in the film industry have raised concerns about the recent surge in coronavirus cases. There are rumors that other studios that weren’t there before Disney left may follow suit.

Last week the White House declared southern Nevada, which includes the city of Las Vegas, a “sustainable hotspot” for the virus. This means the area has a high number of cases and there is a risk that healthcare resources are limited.

Los Angeles County officials have warned residents not to travel to Nevada and Mask requirement for indoor areas reintroduced for all vaccinated and unvaccinated. Las Vegas doesn’t require tourists to wear masks indoors, however.

Representatives from the National Association of Theater Owners declined to comment.

Iwájú Received’t Be ‘Disney-Fashion’ However Guarantees ‘Disney High quality’ Animation

The upcoming Disney and Kugali afro-futurist science fiction animated series, Iwájú, won’t look or feel like any other Disney objects when it debuts next year.

At the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, the crew behind Disney’s and Kugali’s upcoming science fiction series Iwájú discussed like that Afrofuturistic cartoon stands out from the traditional Disney style.

Plot and character details for Iwájú, which was announced at Disney’s Investors Day in December and is expected to premiere on Disney + in 2022, are still under wraps but focus on the class differences in a futuristic version of Lagos, Nigeria. No footage was shown, although Annecy visitors had the opportunity to see a selection of conceptual art that focused on the show’s futuristic architecture and technology. The Panel will be available to Annecy Pass holders until June 19th.

Jennifer Lee, chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation, said that working with the international team at the African studio Kugali opened the eyes of the Disney team: “Working with Ziki [Nelson, director], Tolu [Olowofoyeku, Kugali founder] and Hamida [Ibraham, production designer], it makes us better storytellers at Disney. They made us see storytelling in a different way.

Iwájú is Disney Animation’s first collaboration with another studio. This is something Lee plans to do more in the future to further diversify the types of stories Disney tells and “help the world hear other artists’ voices”.

Regarding the visual style of the series, Hamid Ibrahim said “It won’t look like normal animation” from Disney, joking that there are no “princesses walking around Nigeria”.

Ziki Nelson elaborated, saying, “If you are familiar with some of the work we have published in Kugali, some of the more unique comics we have put out … they have created new styles based on both Eastern and Western art styles . but found African art styles that fit into that aesthetic to create new art styles that you can’t find anywhere else. “If you look at Kugali’s comic book work and find that Olowofeyeku first started the company as an otaku-centric podcast, you can assume that these “Eastern” influences include anime.

Marlon West, visual effects director at Walt Disney Animation, currently working on Iwájú as well as the upcoming musical Encanto, said that Iwájú, as different as it may be from traditional Disney style, will meet the studio’s high artistic standards. He says, “It might not look like a Disney movie, but it has to be Disney-quality.”

The future will premiere on Disney + in 2022.

As for the rest of the market, it remains difficult to read, with the exception of cybersecurity which is all the rage. One stock that isn’t particularly hot is AT&T. ((T.) – Get the reportThat fell 5.8% as shareholders rebelled against the company’s decision to cut its dividend to fund the Warner Media spin-off.

Disney and Sony announce enormous film deal | Leisure

Disney and Sony Pictures have signed a deal to bring Spider-Man and other Marvel projects to Disney +.

The two studios have signed a huge movie licensing deal, with Sony’s Marvel properties arriving on the streaming platform from its release in 2022.

The deal – which applies only to the US – runs over Sony’s 2026 plan and also includes the studio’s titles on a number of Disney platforms, including Hulu, FX Networks, Disney Channels, ABC and Freeform.

Following Sony’s most recent output deal with Netflix, Disney’s agreement will land titles on the first, which will be roughly nine months after a movie hits theaters.

Sony is expected to raise approximately $ 3 billion in film licenses for the two agreements.

In a statement, Chuck Saftler, head of ABC, Freeform, FX Networks and Acquisitions for Disney’s Media and Entertainment Distribution, said: “This landmark multi-year, platform-independent agreement gives the Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution team tremendous flexibility and broad programming capabilities to bring Sony’s Use our rich selection of award-winning action and family films for our direct-to-consumer services and linear channels.

“This is a win for fans who will benefit from the ability to access the best content from two of Hollywood’s most prolific studios across a variety of viewing platforms and experiences.”

Keith Le Goy, President of Global Sales and Networks for Sony Pictures Entertainment added, “We are excited to partner with Disney in delivering our titles to their viewers and subscribers.

“This agreement cements a key element of our film distribution strategy, which is to maximize the value of each of our films by bringing them to consumers across the window with a variety of key partners.”
