The Gaykery Is Denver’s Latest Cell Bakery Serving Southern Fashion Consolation Meals and Candy Treats

If you’ve ever hung around one of Denver’s endless breweries and heard the car horn go by like a car horn, you’ve been in the presence of The Gaykery Food truck and its southern baked goods.

This mobile bakery specializes in a unique combo that completely embodies its owner Joel Brandon Tullos – a southern Mississippi transplant with a mission to connect people of all walks of life regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or sexual preference. While brainstorming various bakery names, Tullos let himself be partly about his own sexual orientation and that Master class cakeshop incident this was seen as a violation of anti-discrimination laws when refusing to bake a gender transition cake. Today The Gaykery serves as a beacon for inclusivity.

Tullos moved to Colorado eight years ago after a trip to the Boulder area. Just two months later, he started looking for jobs in Mile High City and was preparing to move. While studying cooking at Johnson & Wales University, he interned with La Fillette bakery where he got his first professional cooking job after graduating.

Tullos only bought a food truck in April 2021 and finally started his own pastry shop at the end of June 2021. As a long-time home baker and now a professional baker, Tullos would definitely not find a niche in this traveling bakery in Denver.

“As southerners, we have to cook. And as a trained baker, I wanted to combine both. I noticed that food trucks have these glass cases on the windshield, but they never use them. It’s the perfect pastry shop, ”said Tullos.

While not all baked goodies are fully prepared on the truck, The Gaykery operates a communal kitchen that makes batches of cookie dough and pastries. After the transport to the truck, the oven and deep fryer are available for freshly baked delicacies. The same goes for its hearty menu items. Some of these key ingredients, such as raw seafood or poultry, cannot be cross-contaminated – so these are also prepared in the kitchen, stored in the refrigerator, and later roasted or grilled to order on the truck.

While it may seem difficult to juggle a full menu of both sweet and savory items on a food truck, Tullos is masters of the craft. When he grew up, he always mixed different ways, whether with pastries or fried southern food – nothing in the culinary world is taboo.

Some of the menu staples include Chicken and Waffles ($ 13), Shrimp and Grits ($ 14), French Macarons ($ 2.50 each) and various flavored biscuits. The hearty fare in the fare directly reflects the southern roots of Tullos. “I can’t go home if I can’t cook good chicken,” said Tullos.

While dessert options fluctuate with the season, the macaron flavors change every few weeks. Winter brings a caramel apple, rosemary blueberry and spicy chocolate macaron to the menu. Some additional goodies that are planned for the holiday season include Ice-cold shortbread and creme brulee biscuits, biscuits decorated with Hannukah and even chicken and dumplings.

The constantly adapting pastry shop is the perfect vessel for Tullos’ culinary curiosity and passion for delighting its customers.

“I’m building a fan base of really great people who accept people from all walks of life. It’s nice to see that there is something like that in this world, ”said Tullos.

The Gaykery can be found in various breweries in the greater Denver area. You can find the weekly schedule online here.

Ocean Metropolis Resident Gives Fashion, Consolation With Clothes Line

WoodLuck clothing offers unique and sporty clothing with style and comfort in mind. (Courtesy photo by Jake Brown)

FROM MADDY VITALE

Jake Brown, who is only 24 years old, is a budding entrepreneur.

His WoodLuck clothing line offers a range of items for the outdoor type. And the clothes are selling fast. The young talent not only keeps pace with the growing business, but also expands his company and still offers his regular and new customers special offers.

Brown is offering 20 percent off WoodLuck inventory and free shipping through Saturday, December 4th. The coupon code is Beer20. To order, visit WoodLuck at https://woodluckapparel.com/

Clothing is about quality, style, and uniqueness, Brown said. Every “WoodHood” hoodie has a thin piece of wood with the WoodLuck logo sewn into the garment. The company name arose from Brown’s superstition that “knocking on wood” as a lucky charm.

WoodLuck’s customer base has been growing steadily since the website launched in 2018.

And Brown is pretty sure why that could be.

“It’s about quality,” he said during an interview on Saturday in his new office in downtown Ocean City. “A lot of our older shirts just weren’t as good as they are now. I researched various companies and clothing until I found the brand with the best quality. “

Brown, who works full-time in insurance risk management, is an avid surfer and animal lover who is devoted to his family and friend, Alex Valentini of Manasquan.

His passion drives the success he has achieved with WoodLuck.

Brown claims that thanks to his business philosophy – quality over quantity – he ensures he delivers a garment that is comfortable, casual, yet stylish and memorable.

“I want my customers to come back,” he says. “If people like the design or the color, but the quality just isn’t there, they won’t come back.”

Thick and soft sweatshirts from coffee to bone color define the hoodies. Like the other items of clothing, the long-sleeved shirts have the WoodLuck logo with a simple, clear gradient under the logo. The backs of the shirts have designs ranging from surfboards to sundials. The hoodies have the thin wooden labels.

Although his garments are competitively priced, Brown also knows the importance of rewarding returning customers and attracting new WoodLuck fans, he said.

That’s why Brown regularly offers discounts and specials on the website.

He attributes good business acumen to his parents Marnie and Jim Brown, who helped him with his dream, which was once a hobby but quickly turned into a career.

WoodLuck started out at his parents’ house after all.

Now that he has opened an office in Ocean City that he uses for his inventory and WoodLuck office, he sees even more expansion in the future.

He grew up in Ambler, Pennsylvania with his parents and brother Ryan, 20, but always spent the summers in Ocean City.

“I’ve vacationed here since I was a baby,” noted Brown. “I thought Ocean City would be an ideal place to start WoodLuck.”

He is a 2019 graduate of Bloomsburg University where he studied business administration. During his studies WoodLuck was born and the website was launched.

WoodLuck orders, at least for now, exclusively online. While Brown said he was open to the possibility of opening a retail store in the future, the WoodLuck website currently gives customers the benefit of ordering exactly what they want and getting it delivered to their door.

Brown has ideas for some new items and will definitely continue to grow.

“This month itself is the best month we’ve had so far,” he said. “I only fill out order after order. It’s getting really full now, that’s great. My goal is to have more space for more inventory and possibly introduce some new parts into the line. “

Brown has some ideas but doesn’t share the details yet.

“We’ll get some new hats and shorts in the spring,” he said. “We might see some new categories over the summer. We will definitely have something new for our customers. “

The family-style Filipino consolation fare at Hangry Dobo feeds physique and soul | Restaurant Overview | Orlando

Part of me feels that the amount of food you are served in the two-entree combo in the UCF Hangry Dobo area is meant to keep the college students away from the nutritional void like pizza rolls and Access Hot Pockets. The other part of me feels like it’s just fucking good food and you’re going to want a lot of it.

You will feel the love as soon as you step into the restaurant, which is located in the Collegiate Way Plaza on the corner of University Boulevard and Alafaya Trail. A smiling face and a warm welcome await you behind the cafeteria-style steam table loaded with up to 10 rotating Filipino delicacies waiting to be served with rice or pancit – the ubiquitous rice noodles made with cabbage, carrots, and flavored with Soy sauce.

If you’re Kano – the shortened version of the Tagalog slang word Amerikano – you’re likely asked if you’ve eaten Filipino food before. I encourage you to say “no” even if, like me, you are familiar with the kitchen. You’ll enjoy hearing the broad overview of every dish, from the garlic and chicken adobo to the crispy, deep-fried pork belly known as Lechon Kawali. Are you a little nervous about trying the serrano chilli braised pork shoulder with pork blood called Dinuguan? Just ask for a sneak peek before you commit. Samples are gladly given.

The $ 13 combo is the best way to try two main courses plus rice or pancit of your choice. Visit with a bunch of friends and you’ll get an overview of each offer pretty quickly. Restaurants where I could theoretically try the entire menu in one visit are a passion of mine. The combined serving is more than generous (see previous note on potentially malnourished college students) and is served preventively in to-go containers. They know you want to carry the rest home for later.

When I visited the cozy shop – the whole place can accommodate no more than 30 guests – I opted for the chicken adobo (how could I not?) And the dinuguan with rice, while my meal companion was the chicken curry and chicken kare -Kare chose. a rich, creamy peanut-based stew that coats tender chicken legs and green beans.

Though the dishes are presented soberly behind glass, the way the staff spoon the selections into the styrofoam container is an element of ceremony and awe. They make sure that there is something tasty in each serving and that the ingredients are evenly distributed in each serving: a little soft garlic, a few deep green beans, an al dente slice of carrot, a charred chilli pepper.

Hangry Dobo’s chicken adobo, the national dish of the Philippines, deserves its high status in the kitchen. It’s lacquered with sweet and tangy brown sauce that’s dotted with chopped garlic. The slow simmer allows the chicken to disintegrate tenderly, easily dismantled with the plastic utensils that the restaurant gives its guests. The raw vinegar that perks up Hangry Dobos Dinuguan, or as it is colloquially known as “chocolate meat”, will make you want to eat fork after fork again. If it’s available when you visit, don’t miss out. You will not notice a hint of this minerality that boiled blood normally imparts. Chiliheads should ask for a little more Serranos in their Dinuguan, which give the stew a pleasantly herbal taste without adding too much spiciness.

The chicken curry was very popular at the table; the sweet coconut milk sauce, spiced up with fish sauce and lots of garlic, coated with juicy chicken legs, velvety potatoes, carrots and sweet pepper slices. We also devoured the chicken kare kare. What magical spells were used to keep the green beans so pleasantly green and crisp and tender and to enable the Japanese eggplant to keep its texture and shape even in a steam table, I certainly don’t know, but I was thrilled. I was there on a weekday so the special crab curry wasn’t on the menu but I’ll be back.

For dessert, we couldn’t miss the halo halo ($ 8). While the heat index rose to 105 outside, we stayed cool and refreshed by dipping our long-handled spoons into the shaved ice cream dessert and stirring up the treats from bottom to top: sweet beans and corn kernels, purple ube sweet potato and steamed pumpkin cubes with coconut milk. Heaven. We also enjoyed the dense, fudge-like, amethyst-colored Ube cake which asked us if we could ever go back to simple brownies.

College students at UCF, Valencia, and Florida Technical College should show their student ID to receive a 10 percent discount on a meal that’s perfect for making money all week. And while the dollars and cents of the food equation make sense, it’s the gracious spirit and care that goes into eating at Hangry Dobo that makes you feel like what you’re experiencing there is more than just lunch or dinner Dinner. Dining at Hangry Dobo feels like a long, warm, lovely hug.

New app creates professional-style child pictures from the consolation of mother or father’s houses

Updated on: July 8th, 2021, 2:33 am

There is a long tradition of parents taking their babies for professional photos – and an equally long tradition of these children not cooperating.

Westchester photographer Mary Jane Farnsworth and her business partner Yvonne Tully have found a way to take professional photos of your baby with a new app.

The couple say they made it Baby box studio after a less successful session with an exhausted mother and her newborn baby.

“I kept thinking, ‘Why can’t I take all these little tools that I have in my everyday parenting kit so they can bring it out when the baby is at its best,'” says Farnsworth.

And she did.

Proud parents just have to take a few pictures of their little angel with their smartphone at will and simply run the pictures through the app to choose a professional looking background.

“You don’t need to have great photographic skills to use this. This is for beginners who know how to use a smartphone, ”says Tully.

Glamping Near Chicago: Be Outside Like Never Before

When it comes to glamping, you won’t find any skunks in the tents and you won’t have to worry about being eaten by bears. It’s about being outside without sacrificing the amenities of a hotel.

When it comes to glamping, you won’t find any skunks in the tents and you won’t have to worry about being eaten by bears. It’s about being outside without sacrificing the amenities of a hotel.

Mike Doyle and Sam Shandley are the founders of Off Map, a glamping site two hours away from Chicago in Südhafen, Michigan.

“If you are looking for a vacation, you want an adventurous, one-of-a-kind outdoor experience. That’s honestly hard to do here in the Midwest, ”said Doyle.

“Sam did a national park road trip a few years ago and lived on his car for a few months,” added Doyle.

“I ended up doing pretty good at camping, but sometimes I just didn’t want to sleep on the floor,” Shandley said. “You want a bed and you just want to show up and let everything be done for you.”

Off Map offers dozens of safari tents, each with either a king-size bed or three single beds. All tents also have reading chairs, a bedside table and wood heating for cooler nights. There is an indoor lodge on the premises where breakfast is served and a communal fire pit with live music on weekends.

“There’s plenty to do in the area. We’re ten minutes from South Haven and 20 miles from Saugatuck. There are wineries and breweries here. Beaches and parks too,” said Doyle.

Jeannie Weber and Chris Kratschmer, a couple from Chicago, had the opportunity to test Off Map’s cabins prior to its July launch.

“Sometimes it’s nice to leave town and do something else,” said Kratschmer.

The couple also say you get the outdoor feeling of camping without the fear that comes from a night out in the wilderness.

“The land that the glam floor is on is absolutely beautiful,” added Weber. “You feel isolated, but by no means in a creepy horror film atmosphere.”

“There are other tents nearby. You are in a field where you can see the other tents, but you are not directly over it. said Kratschmer.

The Off Map team says it’s about opening up the outdoors to more people.

If there’s one Hollywood celebrity who knows how to get street style and high fashion right, it’s none other than pop icon singer Rihanna. The ‘Umbrella’ singer recently killed two high fashion looks, but not without a supreme comfort quotient, and on April 6th, Rihanna was out in New York when the singer stepped out for dinner. While the first was for a birthday party, the second was for a casual dinner at her favorite Nobu restaurant in New York.

For the night of April 5, Rihanna was caught in the Meatpacking District in New York City. The singer stepped out in a brown lederhosen suit, iconic braids and inevitable studded gloves. Rihanna was carrying a unicorn-colored paper bag that said “Happy Birthday”. While her pant suit was all stylish, Rihanna’s pants attracted maximum attention. The sheer brown pants were the show stopper.

At dinner on April 6, Rihanna effortlessly combined style and comfort. Rihanna put on a bright red leather jacket and paired it with used-look jeans. Her red nails, gold watch, and diamond accessories were the perfect addition to her entire outfit. The singer didn’t hesitate to smile for the paparazzi both times.
