SF Giants, LA Dodgers convey differing types to NLDS

SAN FRANCISCO – Gabe Kapler called it the “catch of the year”.

Buster Posey said it was one of the best catches he has seen in person.

Kevin Gausman sees it as a turning point in the Giants’ remarkable 2021 season.

Not only did Mike Tauchman bring back a potential walk-off home run by jumping in front of the wall of Dodger Stadium, he also swung the momentum of the Giants-Dodgers rivalry in San Francisco’s favor.

After the Giants lost four straight games to the Dodgers to open the season, Tauchman’s robbery of future Hall of Famer Albert Pujols made it possible on Jan.

“It was huge,” said Gausman before Game 1 of the NLDS at Oracle Park. “Of course, to make it to this place at Dodger Stadium it had been a huge streak to come back and win this game.”

That Tauchman was even in the game for the Giants reflected the different styles used by Kapler and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. The outfielder, acquired in a trade that sent Wandy Peralta to the Yankees in April, competed as a pinch-hitter against right-handed Blake Treinen and stayed as part of a double substitution that made him a defensive replacement for left outfield Alex Dickerson did.

The move gave the Giants a move advantage against Treinen, gave Kapler a spot in the strike order to use Evan Longoria in a big pinch hit on the bat later in the game, and also improved the team’s defense. Tauchman, who was designated for deployment on July 28th after releasing a .566 OPS in 166 At-Bats, knocked out Treinen, but the move was one of many Kaplers that season who ultimately played a big role determining the results of. played several Giants wins.

It was also the kind of strategic move that Roberts didn’t have to think about much this year.

With a line-up filled mostly with hits like Corey Seager and Justin Turner starting against right- and left-handed pitchers, the Dodgers don’t make nearly as many direct substitutions as a Giants team that has a hockey-style line change becomes when an opponent brings in a relief mug.

“It seems like our entire squad, maybe not in one game, but over the course of a few games, our entire squad will likely be used,” said shortstop Brandon Crawford. “Whether it’s a pinch punch or comes from the bullpen or whatever it is.”

Crawford and Catcher Buster Posey are two of the few NLDS Game 1 Giants starters who can count on being in the Game 2 lineup when the Dodgers turn to southpaw Julio Urías. On opening day in 2020, Kapler even met right-handed infielder Donovan Solano for Crawford when Roberts challenged left-handed Adam Koralek out of the bullpen.

The Giants veteran shortstop has found its way out of a short-lived and undesirable move, but at most positions around the diamond, the Kapler era has shown a rotation of players that depends on the handedness of an opponent’s starting pitcher.

“He’s done a great job with this team,” Roberts said of Kapler. “So what it tends to mean in this series, there are tendencies, there are trends, but when you get into the postseason where everything is magnified more, it’s a little less predictable.”

The Giants made a slightly unpredictable move with their Game 1 lineup, as Kapler could have started left-handed beating outfielder Steven Duggar and LaMonte Wade Jr. moved to first base to add an extra left-handed to Dodgers starter Walker Buehler to squeeze, but the club decided to leave Duggar on his bench and start Wilmer Flores at first base.

The decision puts Flores, who released a .972 OPS in September, onto the line-up, while Kapler saved Duggar and his left-handed outfielder Alex Dickerson for pub gigs against a Dodgers bullpen that is heavy for right-handed people.

Kapler, Giants President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi, and other top decision makers spend a lot of time determining how their staff will be deployed before each game. Roberts, on the other hand, had to plug a hole created when Max Muncy dislocated his elbow with a pull between Matt Beaty and Albert Pujols in first base, but the Dodgers’ starting line-up in Game 2 on Saturday might look the same as the iteration of Fans saw in game 1.

“I think the Dodgers have great faith in both their bank and their bullpen, but their starting line-up is a group that could obviously see the entire game and that wouldn’t be a surprise either,” Kapler said on Friday.

To win the NLDS, the Dodgers rely on their steady stars and daily starters, who for the most part will play every inning of every playoff game. The Giants need Crawford and Posey to shine, but to defeat the Dodgers they also need the same performances from substitutes that made up their 107-winning season.

Gary Gensler says the SEC will not herald a China-style crypto ban, however Congress might | Forex Information | Monetary and Enterprise Information

SEC chairman Gary Gensler.

  • SEC chairman Gary Gensler said the agency will not impose a China-like crypto ban because that authority rests with Congress.
  • Most tokens could be some form of security, he said at an SEC prudential hearing on Tuesday.
  • Gensler asked questions from a lawmaker who beat him up for “brutally” running over investors.
  • Sign up for our daily newsletter here, 10 things before the opening bell.

Gary Gensler said the Securities and Exchange Commission has no plans to ban cryptocurrencies as the authority actually rests with Congress, adding that most tokens pass the test of being some form of security.

The SEC chair did that Comments at a hearing in the House of Representatives Tuesday after Republican lawmaker asked Ted Budd if the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission could follow China in imposing a blanket ban on cryptocurrencies.

“No. I mean, that would be a matter for Congress,” said Gensler.

“I think a lot of these tokens pass the tests of being an investment contract or note or other form of security that we bring into the SEC’s investor protection mandate,” he added.

The concern in the crypto world is that the U.S. government may restrict or ban digital assets, much like it did with gold in 1933. Gensler previously said that crypto exchanges must register with the agency because some of their tokens or products could be securities.

The People’s Bank of China Declared crypto transactions illegal Late last month, a move analysts said was in line with the central bank’s stance over the past decade.

“Our approach is really very different,” Gensler told the House Financial Services Committee.

He noted that the SEC is looking into how the industry can best protect investors and consumers, and comply with anti-money laundering and tax compliance laws. It would also be in the Problems that stablecoins could pose, he added.

Gensler’s comments echoed those recently made by Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, who said the Federal Reserve had no intention of banning cryptocurrencies.

At the same House hearing, Patrick McHenry asked Gensler on the SEC’s stance on digital assets and reprimanded him for being vague about what a digital asset actually is.

“Some of your comments have raised questions in the marketplace and made things less than clear,” said McHenry. “You made seemingly spontaneous remarks that move the markets, you disregarded rule-making by issuing an out of order statement, and you’ve essentially been rude to American investors.”

Gensler said the agency is following the Administrative Procedures Act, which requires a regulator to issue a general notice of the proposed rule.

McHenry asked Gensler if he a. have reviewed Safe Harbor Proposal created by SEC Commissioner Hester Pierce. The proposal aims to give developers of digital networks a three-year grace period to develop a platform with a registration exemption from federal securities laws.

“Commissioner Peirce and I discussed your thoughts on a possible safe haven,” said Gensler. “I think the challenge for the American public is that if we don’t monitor this and put in place investor protection, people will be hurt.”

LaPorte household raises cash to deliver AED’s to first responders whereas honoring son

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (WNDU) – A family has been struggling to get more AEDs to LaPorte County since their 12-year-old Colton Davis tragically died after suffering cardiac arrest on his way to the hospital in 2019.

16 News Now tells us how they turned this tragedy into an opportunity to prevent this from affecting more families.

Brett and Erin Davis say they want people to be aware of a few things. Be aware of undiagnosed heart problems that could affect your child. Find out about resources in your community in case someone you know has cardiac arrest. And are aware of the opportunities to get CPR and AED certification so you can save lives.

Colton’s parents say he had a big heart that made him a tough competitor in sports and a happy son off the field.

Tragically, he passed away in November 2019 after suffering cardiac arrest with an ambulance that took him to the hospital. His mother says an automated external defibrillator, or AED, could have saved his life, but the ambulance didn’t have one.

“We have to be careful that this doesn’t happen to anyone else. Another’s child. Someone’s grandparent. For everyone, ”said Erin Davis.

They turned tragedy into change by starting a Gofundme site that already raised enough money to buy two AEDs for first responders in LaPorte County.

An Indiana nonprofit Bolt for the Heart pledged to raise the dollars raised by the Gofundme, and they haven’t stopped.

“At the same time, we’re doing a three-mile run in Michigan City on October 30th with the sole focus of raising money to put AEDs in the rest of the LaPorte County Officer cars. 85 AEDs is the goal, ”said Pierre Twer, President and Founder of Bolt for the Heart.

Access to these devices, Davis says, is one thing, but people trained in their use can save lives.

“We also want to teach awareness to do CPR. Many things happened that day that shouldn’t have happened. You need to be ready to perform CPR or use an AED at all times, ”said Colton’s father, Brett Davis.

Prepare your community for the next time a child has a life-threatening accident.

Dillan Gibbons helps increase cash to carry his shut pal to Tallahassee for Sport Day

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (WCTV) – Reunited and it feels so good. A story about a FSU soccer graduate transfer helps a close friend now that Mission Timmy to Tally was accomplished has been a success.

Dillan Gibson uses his NIL deal with a GoFundMe to raise money to take Timothy to Sunday’s Notre Dame game.

“There aren’t really words that can justify my feelings, but I’m just so excited to be here and so excited to offer this,” said Dillan Gibbons, FSU offensive lineman.

Dillan Gibbons described the moment when he finally reunited with his biggest fan, Timothy Donovan, after not seeing each other for over a year and they never missed a beat.

“It’s really surreal, just all the time, it’s been a couple of years and finally seeing him again and they’re picking up right where they left off, it’s great,” said Timothy’s father, Tim Donovan.

The former Fighting Irish lineman raised over $ 50,000 to bring Donovan to Tallahassee for a game that means so much to the two of them, but the family says it’s bigger than just the money.

“No, it’s not about, it really means most to us that Dillan is there for Timothy and the fact that we know if Timothy ever needs a friend or help with anything we can contact Dillan and he always will be there for him ”, explained Timothy’s mother Paul Donovan.

On Thursday, Timothy hit the rest of the offensive as they gathered for the pre-game pizza tradition. A moment he and Dillan were very excited about.

“I’m excited to just hang out with Dillan and everyone else,” said Timothy Donovan.

“I’m really excited that Timothy is enjoying the game and that the whole family is here and really making the most of it,” said Gibbons.

The family said they were grateful for the love they received from the Seminole community.

“It was really overwhelming and heartwarming to see how much you loved Timothy,” shared Paula Donovan. “I got the feeling that everyone in Tallahassee was expecting them and we’re just happy to be here.”

Despite being Notre Dame fans, the family says their alliance is with Dillan when it comes to the game.

The family say they will be at the game at Doak Campbell Stadium on Sunday night as they hope Dillan and the Seminoles start the season with a win.

Lake Metropolis hopes federal cash will convey new life to empty, deserted properties

LAKE CITY, SC (WMBF) – Lake City neighbors are fed up with the empty and abandoned homes in their area, and the city’s mayor is hoping federal money can change that.

The City of Lake City requested a community development bloc grant that the mayor intends to use to revitalize the neighborhoods.

Lake City Mayor Lovith Anderson said many of the vacant and run-down lots in the area have caused problems for neighbors.

He said he would use the grant money to demolish and rebuild houses and rehabilitate the neighborhoods.

“Housing is a huge need in South Carolina. And rural areas are no less inundated with people looking for a place to stay than the larger communities, and we need people in solid structures in the wind zone we are in, “said Anderson.

He added that his goal is to make Lake City more attractive to people who want to live there.

“We lost a little population during the last census, not a lot, so we want to bring that back in and gain a lot more,” said Anderson.

A scholarship public hearing will be held Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at the Lake City Senior Center.

Flyers land Atkinson, lower your expenses; Blue Jackets deliver again Voracek

Apparently the Flyers and Blue Jackets weren’t finished after they had already made some big trade. In the latest tradewho have favourited Flyer Cam Atkinsonwhile the Blue Jackets brought back Jakub Voracek.

Trade: Flyers get Atkinson, Blue Jackets bring Voracek back

Other trades had choices and / or perspectives to consider. At the moment it seems that this is an increasingly rare “one-on-one” deal.

It is critical that reports indicate that there was no salary deduction involved. Frank Seravalli from Daily Faceoff was among the reports that about the trade Voracek – Atkinson.

If that’s true, the gut answer is that this trade is a nice win for the Flyers. Look at their contracts:

  • Cam Atkinson, 32, carries a cap of $ 5.875 million through 2024-25 (four seasons).
  • Jake Voracek, 31, has a much larger AAV of $ 8.25 million. However, his contract expires after three seasons (2023-24). Also the difference between the two in actual salary is not as big as the Cap Hit Disparity.

These salary cap details are important because, while Voracek and Atkinson are different actors, their overall impact is comparable. They are two wingers who bring quite a bit to the table, even though they are both getting older:

Two strikers of similar caliber. Voracek is more polar with more offensive advantages while Atkinson is a great penalty killer. https://t.co/h0lnUpgM9m pic.twitter.com/BtDQWnyerC

Exchange flyers in the new look for Atkinson

Really, it’s been an off-season of change for the Flyers just by trading. (Could you have plans for the free agency, too?)

The Flyers used to give up Nolan Patrick, take a fascinating swing with Ryan Ellis. While this trade has good advantages, the flyers are play great on Rasmus Ristolainen to be better than its underlying statistics have argued.

According to the Voracek-Atkinson deal, the Flyers have about $ 12.5 million in cap space. to Cap Friendly. That space could go fast as the Flyers have important RFAs in. to have Carter Hart and Travis Sanheim. (You will probably want to invest in a replacement goalkeeper too? Maybe?)

Time will tell if the flyers are better after all of these trades. But they will certainly look different after an often deeply miserable season.

Blue jackets – Voracek reunion

In 2007 the Blue Jackets voted Jakub Voracek in seventh place overall.

We were all so much more innocent and fresher. (Photo by Getty Images)

During his first run with the Blue Jackets, Voracek played 241 games, scoring 39 goals and 134 points. We didn’t really see Voracek blossom until he was traded to the Flyers, where he became a deadly goalscorer (and increasingly looked like) Claude Giroux).

That Jeff Carter Handel didn’t just bring in the Flyers Voracek. The Flyers used the first-rounder from this deal for the design Sean Couturier.

(So, uh, the Blue Jackets could lose two Jakub Voracek is trading with the Flyers? Ouch.)

As far as we know, everyone – Voracek, Atkinson, Blue Jackets, and Flyers – could benefit from this fresh start. Like the Flyers, the 2021-22 Blue Jackets will look very different from the 2020-21 model.

The Blue Jackets were only traded a day ago Seth Jones to the Blackhawks in the mega-deal. During the trading period, they also landed major futures by selling high Nick Foligno and David Savard. Since John Tortorella is also out of town, this Columbus team looks very different.

Of all the Blue Jackets trades and changes, adding Voracek feels the least “mandatory” to Atkinson. He could, however, deliver some offensive pop in a season where this is hard to find.

Joyful New River Oaks Retailer to Deliver Kate Spade’s Spirit and Type — Your Sneak Peek at Texas’ First Frances Valentine Boutique

S.The climax of a designer’s death by suicide is a strange, if perhaps even morbid, way of starting a piece of fashion. But when talking about the Frances Valentine brand, Kate Spade, who died in 2018, not only co-founded the line, but continues to be her design inspiration.

Her signature vibrant and playful aesthetic, once only available online, comes to Houston style in the River Oaks District.

“The goal is not just to keep Spade’s legacy alive, but to capture the woman spade could be today, ”remarked FastCompany in a profile at Frances Valentin Co-founder and best friend of Spade Elyce Arons.

When the doors of the new Frances Valentine boutique in the River Oaks District open in the first week of September, it will be Frances Valentine’s first store in Texas. The opening will be followed by other stores in Palm Beach, Sag Harbor and on Madison Avenue in New York City. When it became clear to the company that many fans of the brand still appreciate the personal touch of a shop window, they started out in brick-and-mortar retail. Houston becomes Frances Valentine’s sixth location.

“We visited Houston for a trunk show last February and immediately fell in love with the charming River Oaks District,” Arons said in a statement.

Frances Valentine brings the brand’s Ionic style to Houston with a store in the River Oaks District.

You don’t know the brand? Frances Valentine stands for brightly colored patterns, bold palettes, brightly colored caftans and a range of pullovers and tunics. The line includes charming handbags, indispensable leisure jewelry, hats and shoes in all variations. The aesthetic is airy, fresh and fun in every way. The selection of home accessories is just as spirited.

“We are very pleased that Frances chose Valentine River Oaks District as the home of their first boutique in Texas, ”says Rosalind Schurgin, CEO of Festival Companies. “Each addition to our dynamic portfolio of global luxury and contemporary designers is carefully crafted to enhance and complement a range of unique offerings while appealing to our diverse, international clientele.

Prohibition-style cocktails and stay music: Moody’s Lounge house owners wish to deliver one thing new | Enterprise

You can find Prohibition-era Moody’s Lounge, a cocktail lounge, and music club at 546 Main St. by looking for the neon orange Dal Segno sign – it looks like a percent sign overlapped by a slanted letter “S” .

If you get a dal segno while playing music, you should circle back and play the section again.

“And that’s exactly what we want people to do when they see us,” said co-founder Logan Moody. “Come back and play with us again.”

Moody’s Lounge has been brewing in the minds of Moody and Jim Simons for years. The two met around the age of 5 when their fathers were in the same band – JT and The Big Dogs. Moody and Simons have reconnected and have been close friends for about 12 years.

Moody has always had a vision for this restaurant. An upscale place that reminds you of Prohibition-era speakeasies in both aesthetic and beverage forms – an old fashioned, a Manhattan – and a comfortable place to listen to live music.

But they kicked the can down the street for a couple of years, waiting for the right time.

“Logan and I always talked about opening a high-end cocktail bar, and we finally made it. It was his vision and I was able to use my experience to help cut the red tape, ”said Simons, who is also Vice President of Sales at Enstrom’s Candies. “Logan’s like a brother to me and it’s great to be able to do this together.”

Then in the winter a square opened on Main Street and apparently on a whim they approached 546 Main.

The lounge is elegant and elegant. They have modern black chairs around small tables to sit and listen to music. If you want more space, you can relax on the orange sofa.

“It sounds selfish, but I wanted to open up a place to hang out,” said Moody. “This won’t be a noisy place with sports and it won’t be a dance club. These companies definitely have their place, but it’s not us. We are something that Grand Junction wants but doesn’t have. “

The endeavor also has an additional meaning between the two friends.

Moody’s Lounge combines their shared experience in the food industry and their love of music. Simons is also a co-owner of Enstrom’s. Meanwhile, Moody has worked in the local restaurant scene for years, often as a bartender, in places like Enzo’s Ristorante Italiano, Kannah Creek, and Ella’s Blues Room.

They also learned music from their fathers. Simons plays the saxophone and Moody, who loves everything from the nu metal band Tool to jazz, is a drummer.

They hope to get JT and the Big Dogs on stage as soon as possible after it opens. Simons and Moody were hoping to get the lounge off to a smooth start this past weekend and are hoping it can open sometime in June.

“It’s a small room so we can’t put a rock band up there. And we won’t have a tool up there either – although I wouldn’t say no if asked, ”said Moody. “It won’t just be a jazz club. We’ll have a lot of chill music there. “

People really want to experience something new, said Simons, and he thinks they can do it.

“This will be a place for anyone looking for a place with good cocktails and good music,” said Moody. “I like to be up there and play with people, but I look forward to serving drinks to everyone. It sounds cheesy, but I love doing it for people. “
