Emporas American Legion Post 5 held a special fundraiser for the American Legion Legacy Scholarship on Saturday.

This needs-based scholarship, designed for the children of U.S. military service providers who have either died while on active duty or have a disability of at least 50 percent, earned approximately $ 500.

The Legion had a fundraising cookie and sauce breakfast before the Poker Run and Legacy Run started at 10:30 am. Herb Burris, a rider from Emporia, told KVOE why he was riding.

The trip included stops in Williamsburg, Scranton, Harveyville, and Americus before returning to the Legion for a “burger burn,” awards, and prize draws.

Over 40 American Legion Riders from across Kansas were also in town to raise funds and awareness for the American Legion Legacy Scholarship.
