Another consideration, especially if you are donating to a university, is what your money will be used for. “When people donate to universities that do a lot of research for fossil fuel companies, for example, they can choose to give their money elsewhere or donate their donations to departments that are looking for solutions to climate change.” “says Rouse.

It can also be helpful to find out if the institution accepts money from fossil fuel companies if that affects where you plan to donate.

In all of these situations, it is probably advisable to inform the bank, university, or other institution of your concerns or the reason for your move.

Who knows – it can only be helpful to shift the bar a little more in the direction of climate protection.
