Independence police elevate cash for brand spanking new canine program with automotive present

INDEPENDENCE, KY (WXIX) – The Independence Police Department held a car show Saturday to raise money for a new canine program after it hadn’t had one in 30 years.

Capt. Brian Ferayorni of Independence Police says they had various jeeps, motorcycles and police cruisers on the show at Summit View Academy.

The department has already raised more than half the money needed to take the dog into the force.

“It will allow us to buy the dog first, do the training, we will buy shelter for the dog, we will need food, leashes, a bulletproof vest for the dog, a stab-proof vest,” Cpt. said Ferayorni.

The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 75 helped with the fundraiser.

“The $ 15,000 for the dog and training and then everything that comes with it; We have a figure of $ 75,000 that we’re trying to raise. We’re currently at $ 40,000 and hopefully this auto show brings in some cash for that additional $ 40,000, “said Cpt. said Ferayorni.

This is the first time the department has hosted a car show that took months to plan.

“It’s for a good cause. Like I said, anything you buy or get from here goes to the dogs or local businesses that support us, “said Cpt. said Ferayorni.
