Contact-A-Truck occasion raises cash for K9 unit

HUGHESTOWN, Pennsylvania – Children in Luzerne County got a firsthand look at all of the different types of vehicles on Sunday.

Hughestown Borough hosted a Touch-A-Truck event at Robert Yaple Memorial Park on James Court.

Children hopped in the driver’s seats of recycling trucks, ambulances, and construction vehicles.

“I liked the scuba truck. The ambulance. It was cool to look in and there were the beds and I’ve never looked in an ambulance before,” said Owen and Ella Caine of Duryea.

“Just seeing the community’s dedication to getting them out, Covid has really hindered a lot of that, and getting out of here and seeing all the different kinds of trucks and just bringing the community back together outside of the house really helps.” ‚ÄúSaid Gilbert Diaz, K9 officer.

All proceeds from the Touch-A-Truck event will go to the Hughestown Police Department’s new K9 unit.
