British actress Helen McCrory, who starred in the television show “Peaky Blinders” and the films “Harry Potter”, has died, her husband said on Friday. She was 52 years old and had cancer.

Her husband, fellow actor Damian Lewis, said McCrory died “peacefully at home” after a “heroic battle with cancer”.

“She died while she was alive. Fearless, ”wrote Lewis on Twitter. “God, we love her and we know how lucky we are to have had her in our lives. It burned so brightly. Now, kid, get up in the air and thank you.”

McCrory was one of the UK’s most respected actresses, making a name for herself playing a number of formidable and sometimes terrifying women.

She played the matriarch of a criminal family in “Peaky Blinders” and the scheming Voldemort ally Narcissa Malfoy in the “Harry Potter” films.

Cillian Murphy, who plays the central role of gangland boss Tommy Shelby in “Peaky Blinders” in the English underworld of the early 20th century, said he was “heartbroken to lose such a dear friend”.

“Helen was a beautiful, caring, fun, compassionate person,” he said in a statement. “She was a gifted actress too – fearless and great.

“She elevated and humanized every scene, every character she played,” Murphy said. “It has been a privilege to have worked with this brilliant woman and to have shared so many laughs over the years. I will miss my mate very much. My love and thoughts are with Damian and her family.”
